Solutions Engineer (Remote, ANZ)

As a Solution Engineer, you help break down technical barriers to enable our sales and partners team to show high growth, high volume, and complex merchants how they can accelerate the growth of their business with Shopify. This will be delivered via consultations, product demos and proof of concepts. You will also have the opportunity to engage directly with our Merchants teams at all levels and lead the technical solutions-focused discussions around the Shopify platform, their technology stack and their merchant's overall goals.

It is essential that you are able to consider the strategic vision of the merchant and suggest a path forward that makes solutions for both technical and business fit.


  • At least 4+ years experience in B2B pre sales solution engineering
  • Previously built out and advised on technical solutions & integrations for commerce brands.
  • Deep commerce knowledge in 1+ of these countries/regions: Australia, South East Asia, Japan, China
  • Great troubleshooting and analytical skills, combined with the desire to tackle challenges head-on
  • Development experience. You'll be speaking often with developers and technology teams and need to be able to speak their language. (Liquid, Ruby, React, JS, HTML, CSS etc.)
  • Familiarity with version control systems (git/Github is a plus)
  • Familiarity with web APIs (GraphQL, REST)
  • Become an expert on Shopify's application ecosystem and integrations
  • A solutions mindset: our largest and most advanced merchants like to push the boundaries of commerce and require strong recommendations and viewpoints for success.
  • A commercial mindset: you are able to look past the pure technical implementation to understand the broader business and commercial application.
  • A desire to learn, master and teach our growing Enterprise Customers, Agencies, and Internal teams
  • Can facilitate executive conversations through strong discovery skills with a great phone and in person presence.
  • Can present and lead calls with conviction and understand the best method of delivery in accordance to the audience
  • The ability to thrive on change, work well as part of a team and as an individual contributor, as well as the flexibility to work locally, regionally and globally in a matrixed organisation. We evolve at a rapid pace and things change quickly, sometimes even daily!

Projects you could work on:
  • Providing support to our Shopify sales and partner teams through various channels
  • Working to help validate and close deals within a trusted technical advisor lens
  • Creating customized product demos and proof of concepts for use during on-site or virtual client presentations
  • Exploring creative ways to develop on the platform and answering inquiries about our APIs and technology
  • Mentor and coach the sales team on technical aspects of Shopify
