Shopify's UX team is hands-on and obsessed with enabling commerce at a global scale, with over 500 designers, content strategists, researchers, and developers working across the company. We believe in testing, iteration, and in giving people the room to experiment and grow.

The Commerce Intelligence group has three main responsibilities: building data-powered products that enable merchants to better run their businesses, providing analytical insights that influence better product decision-making internally, and building a data platform to accelerate the first two. UX team members on the Commerce Intelligence team work closely with data scientists and data engineers to design solutions for millions of merchants and their businesses. The ideal candidate is an experienced UX Manager who is passionate about analytics, data visualization, and automation. You'll be collaborating with product managers, product researchers and designers, engineers and data scientists to solve analytics problems like:
  • Making complex business-related data approachable and helping our merchants uncover hidden business opportunities through interactive insights, dashboards, and reports;
  • Leveraging Shopify data to build powerful, creative data experiences.

You're able to set UX goals, direction and strategy that empowers your team with clarity and purpose. You build trust-based relationships across disciplines and leverage diverse perspectives to deeply understand and improve how your team ships impactful work.

Responsibilities
  • Working closely with Product, Engineering, and Data Science managers to make informed product and design decisions.
  • Helping the team define a strong roadmap by advocating for the needs of our users and identifying the right problems to solve
  • Empowering your team to create great products by setting a high quality bar and providing constant feedback to your team members
  • Growing your team members by offering mentorship, establishing clear expectations and connecting them to the right learning opportunities
  • Helping to build out the UX discipline in the Commerce Intelligence team, connecting the team to the rich UX community within Shopify


Qualifications

Requirements for the role:
  • A track record of creating beautiful UX as a creative and visual product leader
  • Experience leading a team in a multidisciplinary UX environment, including product designers, content designers, and product researchers.
  • Passion for solving product problems while balancing all facets of a user experience (strategy and research, information architecture, interaction and motion design, data visualizations)
  • Expert knowledge of the end-to-end iterative product design process, including how to develop and use job stories,content modelling, wireframing and prototyping using real data, usability testing, and high fidelity pixel-perfect visuals
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to help your team and stakeholders understand the impact of your team's work, both short and long term.

Technical Requirements:
  • Mastery of UX discipline tools (Figma, Framer).
  • Experience building analytics products such as smart recommendations, dashboards, metrics, and workflows that power the domain of business intelligence shown in a portfolio of real-world projects.
  • Knowledge of data visualization libraries (e.g. D3.js), notebook environments (e.g. Jupyter, Observable), and query languages (e.g. SQL).
