About the Role

Reporting directly to the CEO + President of Athleta, the SVP Chief Product Officer is accountable for leading, driving and innovating end-to-end product development + commercialization for the brand. This leader will lead the Design, Merchandising and product operations organizations. This is a broad-based and strategic leadership role focused on the vision, strategy, and execution to drive Athleta's performance and growth.

This leader is responsible for consistently delivering beautiful, technical, sustainable product that focuses on the customer first. He/she will elevate and guide the brand product positioning from concept, to product creation, through selling in our stores. This leader will sit on the Athleta Leadership Team and work extensively with cross-functional partners from Marketing, E-commerce, Supply Chain, Finance and Inventory Management.

What You'll Do

  • Refine and execute a strategic vision for the brand + product that is elevated, innovative, and customer centric.
  • Set product vision for the brand + product, and inspire, influence, and lead creative teams and cross functional partners.
  • Ensure successful creation of a product assortment that drives brand strategy and vision.
  • Build and drive short and long-term strategies and prioritize initiatives to deliver top line sales while increasing earnings and market share.
  • Predict and capitalize on business opportunities and risks in-season through utilizing sales performance, commercial planning and marketplace information.
  • Ensure a consistent look + feel across categories with consistently designed product based on customer, trends, and strategy filters and that product meets customer expectations and fit standards.
  • Continuously review and lead team to identify opportunities to increase speed to market, rapid response, improve product execution, and drive down cost.
  • Lead and drive responsive strategies and deliver product with optimal cost, quality and delivery.
  • Develop alignment across product functions through strategic problem solving and communication, focusing on the most critical issues and actionable opportunities
  • Develop objectives (short and long term), and manage the day-to-day efforts of the teams to ensure a high level of responsiveness, flexibility, and efficiency in achieving goals in a results-driven environment
  • Deep understanding of our customer to develop a thoughtful and informed perspective of product and market opportunities, including competition and differentiation
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing to develop and deliver product training and other product assets.

They will effectively evaluate underlying process, customer and market drivers, simplify the complex and connect the dots across product functions and key milestones in the product lifecycle to help build one, global product assortment that delivers for all markets and channels. Demonstrating a bias for action and practicality, this individual will distill a compelling vision into clear operating priorities and plans that generate measurable results.
  • Results Orientation: Given the Company's ambitious growth objectives, this individual is someone who delivers beyond expectations and sets new and stretching goals for him/herself and the team. The successful candidate will be a vocal, visible advocate for consumers and bring a customer-focused orientation to process transformation. S/he will have a deep understanding of operational levers and process interfaces to impact the customer experience and deliver improvement across the value chain.
  • Leadership: The SVP will have demonstrated a track record of leading high-performing, direct and cross-functional teams, giving them clear direction and creating strong levels of engagement and accountability. S/he will have built and mentored a team to think creatively, take risks and drive higher levels of performance. This individual should also be able to point to examples of having attracted and developed high-caliber talent within an organization.
  • Collaboration and Influencing: The individual must be able to motivate others to work with the broader team, leaning heavily on his/her collaborative nature and influencing abilities to succeed through others, often beyond the direct area of responsibilities. The individual must be a confident and persuasive communicator, high on EQ and low on ego, who can motivate across all levels of the organization, within Athleta and across Gap Inc.
