Technical Designer

Responsibilities

  • Create development technical packages from development through production in RLM (PLM system)
  • Provide effective fit corrections, sketches, photos and sample comments that clearly communicate the required modifications for vendors
  • Issue graded specs to vendors upon fit and PPS approval
  • Ensure execution of design and fit intent into bulk production while maintaining brand aesthetics and quality standards
  • Evaluates samples to ensure they meet construction, grading/tolerances and recommend solutions to improve product where possible
  • Understand and follow the design and production cycle/timelines to ensure all deadlines are achieved
  • Work closely with in-house pattern maker
  • Maintain daily communication with internal and external teams to ensure production is on schedule
  • Evaluate associates tech packs to ensure comments are thorough, accurate, and complete for overseas factories
  • Perform benchmarking, maintain awareness of market trends, competitively shop and make recommendations
  • Effectively conduct live fit sessions
  • Work closely with domestic sample makers to communicate construction and sample execution.
  • Update brand communications team with any fit changes that would reflect in sales images
  • Organize fit samples by seasons and manage sharing of samples between cross functional partners
  • Maintain WIP reports throughout production; sending initial WIPs, reviewing weekly updates, chasing for submits
  • Manage fit schedule and budget

Qualifications

  • 5+ years prior Technical Design or patternmaking experience
  • PLM experience, preferably RLM
  • Ability to navigate Gerber system
  • Strong understanding of the effects of different fabrics in regard to fit
  • Prior experience working with domestic and overseas factories
  • Computer proficiency in Excel, Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
  • Excellent interpersonal skills supporting a team environment
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with a sense of priority for deadlines and attention to detail
  • Must be able to work efficiently under stress
  • Advanced knowledge of pattern making, draping, garment construction, grading and factory production
  • Strong swimwear and ready-to-wear construction, patternmaking and grading knowledge
  • Excellent fitting skills and an eye for detail
