Job Details
Jennifer Behr is seeking a motivated and talented designer to join our creative team. The Designer will be instrumental in developing seasonal and core collections along with executing special projects, collaborations, and editorial requests from concept through development phases. We are seeking someone with a proven jewelry design track record, who is excited to continue to expand our core, seasonal, and bridal collections. This is a full time role, working out of our studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
We are seeking a design driven individual who can spearhead the further development and innovation of our jewelry collection, while maintaining and contributing to the integrity of our overall design ethos.
The Jennifer Behr customer is a modern romantic who appreciates elevated design and luxury quality. We are looking for a designer who shares our aesthetic and our passion for design, and who can help bring our jewelry visions to life to further evolve the brand offerings. We are looking to deepen and expand our jewelry collection. Our jewelry is currently all made in the United States and we have a working atelier in the studio which produces much of our fabric collection.
This position will be primarily focused on the development of jewelry and jeweled headpieces, but will also manage additional design categories and developments including fabrics, and embroidery elements, working to expand the breadth of company designs and collections. Experience in both categories would be a bonus but we are primarily looking for someone with deep jewelry knowledge and experience.
The ideal candidate is a design thought leader and innovator who shares a similar design ethos to the Jennifer Behr brand and is comfortable working both autonomously and as a part of our larger team. We are seeking an individual who is continuously excited about developing new ideas, techniques, and material uses in order to keep pace with our ever evolving collections. This position reports directly to the Founder/Creative Director and will work closely with her on design.
Responsibilities Include:
Research, identify and forecast market jewelry trends, presenting concepts to team for feedback and approval
Work with Creative Director to develop design direction per season
Work closely with Creative Director in order to execute season vision and inspiration across all categories for design
Work with Brand Manager and Creative Director to source and develop designs for collaborations and special projects
Develop and maintain concept and seasonal design boards for all categories
Produce sketches and mockups for all proposed sample development
Create and maintain all new development technical sheets and specifications
Maintain detailed progress tracking for development and delivery of all designs, samples, components and materials
Ensure all samples and designs are delivered in a timely fashion while maintaining cost, quality, and brand aesthetic
Work with sales team to understand company selling trends and translate the information into successful future product developments
Oversee development and issuance of all production BOMs each season, ensuring material and cost accuracy
Work with Director of Production on seasonal costing scenarios, working to achieve highest quality product and target margin per category and channel
Review all samples for technical and quality performance and provide factories and seamstresses with comments regarding fit and technique improvements
Organize and prepare all season collection samples and protos for team reviews
Source and initiate relationships with new jewelry manufacturing partners that are aligned with Jennifer Behr quality and aesthetic standards
Continual sourcing of new materials and techniques in order to further brand innovation
Candidate Qualifications:
Thorough technical knowledge of development, materials, and assembly details for fashion jewelry. Fine jewelry and bridal experience are a plus.
Luxury taste level and proven experience producing commercially successful jewelry product
Prior experience with domestic development and production
Ability to communicate effectively with domestic factories and in house sample makers
Excellent time management skills and ability to manage expectations, while adhering to market and delivery deadlines.
Able to work both autonomously and as part of a larger team, with clear communication skills
Demonstrate creativity with a strong attention to detail
Mastery of CAD, Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe In Design, and Microsoft Office
