Job Details

We're looking for an experienced security leader to join Shopify's Trust team and lead our Security Awareness and Education team!

Shopify has grown rapidly over the last number of years. Through a series of safeguards, the Trust team has created a safe environment for employees to do their best work without risking merchant, buyer and partner trust. The Security Awareness and Education team collaborates with our IT, security and privacy subject matter experts to architect and build engaging and creative awareness solutions to enhance our security and privacy culture.

As the Senior Manager of the Security Awareness and Education team, you'll be responsible for defining and growing the security advocacy strategy, roadmap and team. You'll be expected to keep pace with our technical environment, intertwine awareness and education material at the right moment, with the appropriate context, in the most effective format that aligns with Shopify culture.

This is a team with a large mandate. Prioritizing what will achieve the greatest impact will be important. You'll have the chance to team up with the best talent to deliver awareness and education products. Sounds like the place for you? Read on, and we'd love to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

Here's what you can expect from the role - an opportunity to:
  • Lead the security awareness and education team with a goal of contributing to Shopify's strong security and privacy culture through the delivery of workshops, events, communications and training materials.
  • Use learning theory and technical knowledge to guide the team in developing content that is engaging to the audience and reduces human and technical security and privacy risk at Shopify.
  • Leverage data to define and develop metrics to measure the impact of awareness and education deliverables and identify opportunities to accelerate the trust culture.
  • Grow the team through mentorship, development and hiring of awareness advocates.
  • Build strong partnerships with security and privacy subject matter experts.
  • Build relationships with and work alongside other Shopify's technical education teams to integrate security context into existing company wide education programs.
  • Champion the technical education craft along with other leaders at Shopify.

Qualifications

In a leadership role, we require that you have:
  • Proven management and leadership skills, allowing you to develop and mentor others as well as build credibility with your team while executing broader security and privacy strategies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in building and operating security and/or privacy awareness and education programs and teams in a technical environment.
  • Experience in building strategy and roadmaps, integrating your team's goals with the larger company initiatives to deliver business, security and privacy value.

It would be great if you had experience in any of the following (don't stress, we are not expecting experience in all of the following!):
  • Knowledge of security and privacy safeguards.
  • Knowledge of experience with technologies such as Google Cloud Platform, Splunk, Okta, GSuite, GitHub, Mode, Bridge, Degreed, Articulate 360
  • Familiarity of cloud and zero trust engineering architecture.
  • Designing and implementing ways to track user engagement and behaviour change. Experience with tracking user participation and engagement.
  • Building learning material and courses for adult audiences.
  • Participating in industry community groups that focus on security awareness and education (ex. SANS, SCC).
