About the team
Shopify is the world's fastest growing commerce platform, with no plans to slow down, powering over 1.7 million stores in more than 175 different countries. Shopify's Total Rewards team is responsible for building our global compensation, benefits and mobility programs. At Shopify, we are a pay-for-impact company. Our leaders empower their teams with the autonomy and support they need to write their own story and deliver high impact outcomes. We place a high value on an employee's level of impact and performance when determining compensation. Although we value frameworks, we aren't confined to them.

About the role
We're looking for a Senior Lead of Compensation, with experience scaling and designing compensation programs (ideally on an global scale) to join our Total Rewards team. You will partner with our Director of Compensation to drive compensation strategy and design, scale our practices and systems, and optimize our processes for global growth. You will be a critical part of ensuring the successful delivery of compensation programs in support of our overall rewards strategy. At Shopify, you won't hear "because that's just how we do it." Instead, you will be constantly changing, challenging, and evolving ideas, and looking for the best way to build for the future.

To be successful in this role, you must be someone who thrives working on a lean, fast-paced, and strategic team. You must have strong experience with (and a penchant for) people leadership, and be adept at managing and leading teams, juggling competing priorities, and working creatively and efficiently to get stuff done. You must be curious, and enjoy digging into processes and systems to challenge the status quo. We want someone who is a self-proclaimed market analytics geek, and who is sincerely excited by compensation design principles, as well as successfully executing thoughtful compensation programs on a broad scale.

At Shopify we break the mold, stretch the limits, and raise the bar. You will work with smart, engaged colleagues who care deeply about their work, their teammates, and their stakeholders, and we can guarantee that you will never stop learning.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead programs and projects in the areas of compensation and equity
  • Lead a team of analysts focused on market analytics and systems
  • Optimize and design our compensation programs for a global, Digital by Design (read: remote) world
  • Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders (Leaders, Finance, Legal, Talent)
  • Evaluate our existing global total compensation programs to identify opportunities to reward our most valuable assets: our people
  • Work with teams & leadership across Shopify to design and implement a compensation program that is innovative and cutting edge
  • Own and manage our compensation fairness programs and analysis
  • Evolve our compensation and equity tools

Qualifications

  • In depth experience with and strategic understanding of global compensation & equity programs
  • Experience leading and managing people, global teams, and projects, as well as managing multiple priorities, stakeholders and deadlines
  • Experience scaling compensation programs and processes
  • Proficiency with Excel and other data analytics tools
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and on an individual basis without a lot of guidance or oversight.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Bonus Experience
  • Experience in executive and board compensation
  • Strong High Tech market knowledge

We know that applying to a new role takes a lot of work and we truly value your time. Bo Wang, Director, Compensation, is looking forward to reading your application and finding someone amazing to work with.

Please include in your cover letter a short description of a problem you've solved in the equity compensation sphere and how you reached a solution.

Closing date: Friday, October 22, 2021 at 11:59 PM ET. You can expect to hear an update on your application during the week of November 1, 2021. Thank you for your patience!
