As Senior Writer, your part in that mission will be to understand the needs of our merchants, and to write, update, and repurpose content that helps them better understand what's next in the commerce landscape, and unlock the value of Shopify's products and services.

You'll handle the sleeves-rolled up work that goes into producing fresh, relevant written content for Shopify's high growth merchants. You'll help to both drive qualified traffic to our properties, and inspire and engage users to learn more about our platform and products, collaborating with the rest of the global content marketing team to align on priority topics and themes.

First and foremost, you love to write. You also have experience in and a passion for a variety of content formats-SEO driven (new and refreshes), thought leadership, data storytelling, solution-driven product guides, and more-and understand the unique benefits of each to apply them at the right time toward the right goals.

You'll collaborate with editors, marketing managers and subject matter experts across the organization to plan, write and publish content for our merchants that straddles the world of commerce trends and product value, as part of building our broader content marketing ecosystem.

  • Write first-rate content that demonstrates a deep understanding of our audience and product. Alongside your strategic input, you'll spend most of your time writing content that reaches our audience, when they need it. This includes content that reaches people who aren't yet aware of or searching for Shopify's solutions to bring qualified traffic to our properties, and content that teaches merchants how Shopify products can solve their problems asthey continue to engage with us.
  • Use your skills in multiple content formats to develop the right content for the right opportunities at the right time: The world of commerce is constantly evolving, our product is evolving in response, and the algorithms that control where and how our content shows up are always changing. Change really is the only constant, so it'll be your job to collaborate with your fellow content marketers on impactful formats based on our unique needs at any given time.
  • Drive business results. You're comfortable working in a marketing team that's inspired by insight but guided by data. You can get comfortable with using the resources available at Shopify to understand how your content is making an impact.
  • Collaborate on distribution strategies that get your content in front of the right audience: You understand that great content is only half the battle, and will work with other marketing stakeholders on distribution strategies that not only ensure your content reaches the right people, but also inform your content creation.
  • Collaborate with the wider global content marketing team to align on themes: You'll be part of a team of content marketers-while each is focused on a unique goal, making sure there's alignment across the team will be key to developing a strong overall content program.
  • Set the (new) standard. The right person won't just meet our current standards for quality-they'll push us to new heights and are motivated to define what "great work" means for our team.


  • At least 5 years of experience writing content for a B2B audience, bonus if you have experience in the ecommerce or retail industries.
  • Strong writing and editing chops, with a talent for distilling complex ideas into plain language. Whether writing long-form guides or micro-copy, you work hard to make every word matter-even under a tight deadline.
  • Experience in a marketing role is preferred. Bonus if you've worked at a technology company. You have a track record for producing content that moves the needle, and you've helped define and been accountable to clear goals and KPIs.
  • A knack for building streamlined processes for content marketing teams and know how to efficiently manage expectations--and your own time. You're an organized person who hits deadlines while keeping standards high and stress low.
  • A passion for learning about your audience (our merchants) and how Shopify's products fulfill their needs-as well as a genuine interest in the commerce space.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard SEO software (e.g., Ahrefs), analytics software (e.g., Google Analytics), marketing automation software (e.g., Salesforce), and content management systems (e.g. Contentful) is a plus but not a requirement.
