As Lead Strategic Sales Development (m/w/d) you will drive growth by developing our expansion and partnership strategies so we can penetrate fast and win big across Europe. Through your team you will own the scaling of our acquisition process, building dense retail networks in key metropolitan and suburban areas. Beyond your team, you will be responsible for spreading a strategic mindset across the whole sales team. You will be expected to think ahead and identify business opportunities to be seized now to positively influence sales acquisition performance in the years to come. You will need to apply both an analytic but also pragmatic approach to deliver on our long-term strategy from ideation to implementation. Your team has a wide-ranging impact on all sales-related discussions and also on the overall business. Your main goal is to rapidly increase the Connected Retail footprint in Europe, by partnering with strategic players in the fashion retail ecosystem and by establishing business cases to secure future growth opportunities. You are part of one of the most innovative Zalando teams, reinventing retail: Online-to-Offline.

  • Research, plan and execute. You will own the strategy and the end to end process for securing strategic deals and deploying scalable sales activities to win in key European metropolitan and suburban areas to maximize rapid growth
  • Develop strategic partnerships. You will craft, develop and drive our sales partnership strategy - defining targets and winning deals as you work closely with the Central and International sales teams. Leading and owning the engagement strategy to connect with sales partners, you will identify and craft win-win deals with big ecosystem players (think trade associations, commercial real estate operators and key sales agents and distributors etc.) to reach and acquire 1000's of physical retail stores, while driving the internal governance to secure alignment and support for these partnerships
  • Hire and lead the best. Coach and develop a startup team by creating a clear north star, defining priorities, KPIs and goals, improving cross-team collaboration, evaluating and developing skills and growth potential as you identify and hire promising talent
  • Build alliances. You will be the ideal role model securing commitment to the strategies and targets you develop. You will also promote a collaborative spirit with the central and international sales teams as you work closely with Regional, Country Managers and our Sales Leads. Your key partners are the marketing and Business Development team
  • Own your success. You will work closely with Connected Retail sales leadership who will challenge and support you to achieve the required impact. You have a great deal of freedom in choosing strategies to achieve your goals and, if necessary, adjust your course as needed
This is a strategic development, scaling and deal making role, pivotal to achieving our scalable growth ambitions:
  • Minimum 5 + years management consulting, project management, business development experience at a top tier consultancy, software company, startup or a similar organization. You have strong business and technical acumen and an ability to find shared wins with a proven record of accelerating sales through alliances and partnerships. Experience in SaaS and / or the lifestyle industry (e.g. fashion, sportswear, beauty) would be a plus
  • Speed, agility and leadership resilience characterize you: Being a highly organised commercial leader you have the endurance to deliver multiple business cases and a project roadmap within set deadlines. Your superior knowledge of business transactions (such as B2B + B2C commercial agreements) and your PMO skills (leading and developing teams and operating on several work streams simultaneously) are unrivalled. Our team is important to us, so not only are you a strong self-starter with the ability to work independently, you should also be a good team player.
  • Developing engagement strategies to connect with external senior leaders comes naturally to you. You have a strong network within the European fashion ecosystem and you can nurture and leverage these relationships to accelerate our growth
  • An agile mind, strong communication and influence skills are self-evident for you. Solid experience of developing strategic relationships and managing internal and external stakeholders, whilst working within cross functional teams, maintaining engagement and ensuring commercial momentum
  • As a start-up, our leaders should be inspiring, persuasive and informative. You should be able to excite our sales teams and your stakeholders with your passion and knowledge and be confident but empathetic as you confront tough challenges and drive successful outcomes. Excellent spoken and written English skills
