Cara Cara is an advanced contemporary women's ready-to-wear clothing label founded by three women and based in New York City. Along with its’ direct to consumer website the label has a network of over 20 high-end boutiques and retailers including Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Elyse Walker, Moda Operandi, Saks Fifth Avenue, ShopBop, Intermix, Kirna Zabete and Capitol.
Role Title: Design Associate
Looking for a creative and energetic Design Associate to join their growing team. The Design Associate will work with brand’s Co-Founders on the design, development and production of its’ women’s ready-to-wear collections, coordinating with PR & Marketing and Brand Coordinators to create promotional assets and facilitate inventory management.
Responsibilities
- Partner with designer on all aspects of the design/development process from start to finish including detail sketches, tech-packing, trend presentation/concept boards etc, artwork recoloring etc
- Communicate closely and partner with Design, Sales, Production and Operations to effectively communicate departmental needs and design requests
- Generating and updating of style numbers, design line sheets and color cards
- Assist in conducting competitive set and customer market research
- Adhere to due dates for all stages of design and manage internal team around key dates
- Adjust Time and Action calendar changes and socialize internally
- Source and maintain fabric assortment for each season and catalogue previous seasons’ sketches and prints
- Coordinate samples: check in proto and sale samples, track organize and archive, coordinate sample requests from sales and marketing
- Send out and follow up on packages for overseas vendors, production
- Attend and assist photoshoots, fittings, group meetings and trend shopping
- Communicate closely with sample rooms, factories, and vendors
Skills
- At least 3-5 years of experience in the fashion design industry
- Must be able to create an overseas tech pack for Production and tech teams
- Computer and tech savvy
- Proficient in Photoshop – including being able to CAD prints to bodies for line sheets
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator
- Strong written and oral communication style commensurate with Cara Cara’s luxury client base and buying audiences
- Able to work in a fast paced and team-based environment
