Job Details

Engineering Program Managers lead and support our most key strategic programs and missions across Shopify. You will work horizontally across all product areas in Shopify Core, partnering with engineering leads, and collaborating closely with product managers and leadership teams to drive our missions and themes forward. Resourcefulness is key - you'll need to quickly gather context on our infrastructure, systems, software and safeguards to be able to have an impact.

If you're looking for an opportunity to have a broad and lasting impact on Shopify's strategic programs, and on commerce for everyone, then this is the role for you.

This role gives you the opportunity to:
  • Lead and support missions across Shopify by aligning priorities, dependencies, buy-in, and timing across many projects and product areas
  • Connect the dots between projects, programs and people at Shopify - making sure we prioritize engineering qualities, and proactively manage risks
  • Drive great decisions quickly, by empowering leadership and teams with the right context at the right time
  • Partner with mission leads to ensure that the work is impactful, relevant, and drives our business outcomes
  • Reflect on and evangelize learnings from missions, iteratively improving how we work at Shopify

Qualifications

You should have experience with*:
  • Program management experience, building and running large, complex, multi-disciplinary engineering programs
  • Software development experience or experience working with or leading engineering teams
  • Technical understanding of how systems connect with each other
  • Translating technical jargon and complicated concepts into something simple, accurate and understandable
  • Working cross-functionally in large organizations to solve complex problems, treat large amounts of information, and easily build and maintain an influential network within organizations

* You should have experience with a few of the above, but we don't expect all of them. If you're missing some qualifications but believe your experience is transferable, please do apply.

We know that applying to a new role takes a lot of work and we truly value your time. We are looking forward to reading your application!

At Shopify, we are committed to building and fostering an environment where our employees feel included, valued, and heard. Our belief is that a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion enables us to truly make commerce better for everyone. We strongly encourage applications from Indigenous peoples, racialized people, people with disabilities, people from gender and sexually diverse communities and/or people with intersectional identities.

How we hire

At Shopify, we put a lot of care and time into who we hire. We believe that in order to build the best products, we need to build high impact teams. Our recruitment process centres around what we call the Life Story interview, a conversational-style interview where we get to learn more about you.
