As Shopify continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced, dynamic individual to join our Communications team to support our corporate-oriented media relationsefforts in North America

Job Description:

As the Senior Manager for Shopify's corporate media relations, you will help us in creative storytelling and media relationship building in order to (1) make Shopify synonymous with entrepreneurship, (2) position Shopify as a leading global employer and corporate citizen, and (3) protect Shopify's brand reputation.

This individual loves building strategic and long term media relationships, has their finger on the pulse of what's happening not only in the world of technology and businesses, but also of broader cultural conversations. They understand the power of traditional media, but experiment with and are excited by new storytelling opportunities and content formats. In short, they know what it means to be relevant and innovative in a rapidly changing media landscape and also have the foundational craft experience to build and maintain new and existing relationships.
  • Build Shopify's brand awareness as the entrepreneurship company by creating and fostering strong media relationships and storytelling, continuously delivering across broadcast, print, and online outlets; experiment with new formats including podcasts, YouTube shows, and others
  • Drive business media for Shopify, touching on our employer communications, sustainability efforts, and company vision
  • Devise communications strategies surrounding marquee corporate announcements
  • Support on cultural calendar moments, speaking opportunities and awards to position Shopify and its merchants throughout the year; create an always-on storytelling approach while following general corporate news stories
  • Support with building key messages and prepare talking points and briefings, coaching key spokespeople as needed
  • Leverage Shopify data findings to share insights with relevant business and technology media
  • Concept and implement fresh campaigns, partnerships, and other news-driving initiatives to build and sustain buzz
  • Collaborate with agency partners and work cross-functionally across various internal teams including talent, marketing, brand, and others
  • Support broader Communications team in general press office duties including vetting and responding to inquiries


  • We are looking for someone who is energized by the topics of entrepreneurship, commerce and retail andwith a strong passion for media relations and storytelling. The ideal candidate has:
  • Significant experience in corporate communications, with a strong media relations background and a track record of success in driving coverage across top-tier media North American outlets (broadcast, print, online, and non-traditional communications opportunities), managing large scale projects, working with multiple stakeholders. and driving feature stories
  • Experience in retail or technology and an interest in commerce and entrepreneurship
  • Experience working with leadership and executives on speaking opportunities
  • Thrives on change, able to work in a fast-paced environment and quick to adapt and pivot as required
  • Creative storyteller, able to see opportunities where they may not be obvious; tapped into business and technology news;
  • Ability to operate autonomously, able to get shit done with little supervision
  • Ideally, you are located in EST time zone and if not, are able to support and work EST business hours
