Job Details

We're looking for an experienced security leader to join Shopify's Trust team and lead our Zero Trust Security team!

Shopify has grown rapidly over the last number of years. Through a series of safeguards, the Trust team has created a safe environment for employees to do their best work without risking our merchants' trust. The Zero Trust Security team is continuously evaluating Shoipfy's safeguards and building enhancements to achieve a strong security baseline.

As the Director of Zero Trust Security, you'll be responsible for defining and growing the security strategy, architecture and technical roadmap for zero trust security at Shopify. You'll be working with and leading a group of highly talented security engineering experts to build a best in class practice for zero trust security. You'll also get to work alongside our Zero Trust Development team and IT team to bring the engineering strategy to life.

This is a very exciting security space to be a part of. As Shopify continues to grow, so does the team's mandate. Sounds like the place for you? Read on, and we'd love to hear from you!

Here's what you can expect from the role - an opportunity to:
  • Lead the engineering and operations teams that design and implement device security protections including endpoint protection, vulnerability management, MDM policy changes, and secure connections across a fleet of laptops and mobile phones.
  • Build and scale the zero trust technical architecture and engineering roadmap.
  • Use data to visualize security impact and surface opportunities to further enhance protections.
  • Provide direction, mentorship and support to a team of engineering program managers and technical security analysts.
  • Grow the team through hiring and development.
  • Be a security domain expert at Shopify.

Qualifications

While we don't need you to have specific experience with our technology stack, this is a leadership position that requires that you have:
  • Proven management and leadership skills, allowing you to develop and mentor others as well as build credibility with your team while executing broader security strategies.
  • Familiarity working with senior stakeholders across the organization, both technical and non technical, to develop roadmaps, integrate with larger company initiatives and deliver business and security value.
  • Well established practices to stay abreast of new security threats that could threaten the assets being protected.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in building and operating security engineering functions, implementing changes in a technical environment to reduce risk and build maturity.
  • Experience designing and building safeguards to secure macOS, chrome OS, iOS and iPadOS devices operating in a zero trust environment.
  • Strong analytical and data literacy skills, working with large datasets to gather insights and validate assumptions.

It would be great if you had experience in any of the following (don't stress, we are not expecting experience in all of the following!):
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with technologies such as Google Cloud Platform, Google Workspace, Splunk, Okta, Jamf, Airwatch, Intune and GitHub.
  • Leveraging technology to automate manual work.
  • Experience building out device forensics capabilities.
  • Experience with MDM Methodology, and familiarity with various implementations.
  • Experience developing software or working alongside a software development team.

Closing date: Friday, October 29th, 2021 at noon EST. Successful candidates can expect to hear back from us by Friday, November 5th 2021.
