Job Details

Shopify exists to make commerce better for everyone and in order to bring this mission to life, we must include everyone across all dimensions of diversity worldwide. Our commitment is clear: diversity is an organizational imperative and belonging is at the core of what we do. We continuously strive for merchants, employees and our ecosystem to experience this fundamental human need throughout their entire journey with Shopify. Our vision is that everyone at Shopify and in our ecosystem feels included, valued and heard and that we bring more voices to entrepreneurship in our mission to make commerce better for everyone.

The Senior Manager, Marketing and Operations will be responsible for creating a holistic marketing plan to communicate the work of the Social Impact team both internally and externally, and will execute on that plan by working closely with the Communications Leads (internal / external), and others across Shopify and our community partnership network. This role is crucial in clearly communicating and amplifying the Social Impact team's work, programs, partnerships and most importantly - the impact - among key stakeholders within and outside of Shopify.

Responsibilities include:
  • Developing and executing an integrated go-to-market strategy for Social Impact at Shopify, leveraging existing channels we have access to and creating new channels where needed
  • Championing all Social Impact communications internally and externally, with support from Senior Lead, Social Impact and the wider Social Impact team to ensure that we clearly communicate the shared value we are creating
  • Acting as a funnel for all messaging and storytelling from the Social Impact team, enabling team members to feed all their success stories and other communications up to you for further distribution
  • Working with teams across Shopify to own or collaborate on content around partnerships, programs, impact reports or other initiatives, including editorial content, social media, press releases and internal communications
  • Managing The Impact Digest, our cross-functional internal impact blog, including a content calendar, editorial guidelines, writing and editing pieces, and working with teams to evolve the blog as needed
  • Leading the team through our Sustainability Report contributions and maintaining our external facing Social Impact website
  • Managing and programming our internal Slack channels and Vault pages as needed, to ensure that we leverage these properties to increase awareness of Social Impact's programs
  • Auditing our team operations and help the team run more effectively, by improving how we use tools such as Google Drive and internal content management to share knowledge and get things done

Qualifications

You'll need to have:
  • Proven experience developing and executing integrated go-to-market strategies
  • A problem solver's mindset - be ready to look for creative new ways that we can share our work more broadly
  • Prior experience creating, editing, and reviewing content as needed, and crafting every message with an understanding of your audience
  • A solid understanding of the social impact and sustainability fields, and a high degree of comfort writing and communicating about this work
  • Relentless perseverance - our work is important but isn't the primary function of the company, so sometimes our communications priorities will take a backburner to other teams. We need to keep going and seek out the best ways to achieve our goals, regardless of some setbacks

It'd be great if you have:
  • Written or contributed to sustainability or impact reports at other organizations
  • Managed integrated communications campaigns for internal and/or external audiences
  • An understanding of the principles of knowledge management, so that we can manage our knowledge assets in a way that maximizes their value to the team and to Shopify
