Talent reviews, succession planning, internal movement, and strategic workforce planning - it's what most companies would call "traditional" talent management. Except, how we build and implement it at Shopify will be anything but traditional.

We're building a Talent Management system that is simple, data-informed, and most importantly human-centred. It's a really interesting problem to solve and a big responsibility - we want Shopifolk to be increasing their collective impact over time as we build towards being a 100 year company. We're looking for someone who has firsthand experience with traditional programming across Talent Management and understands the good, the bad and the ugly. In particular, we're looking for experience liaising with Talent business partners and business leaders to support strong performance management, internal movement and career development systems within their teams. We want to use your knowledge and your creative energy to help build new tools, programs, and rituals that are cutting edge and unique to Shopify.

Responsibilities:
  • Help to build, implement, and sustain our talent management system in collaboration with the Talent Management team
  • Help to build and implement an internal consultancy service for performance management and internal movement, offering support to business partners and teams across Shopify
  • Get an understanding of how talent management runs at other companies; what works, what doesn't, where the future is trending, and what will land at Shopify
  • Serve as a liaison between Talent Business Partners and the Talent Management team on topics related to performance management and internal movement
  • Collaborate with Learning Acceleration, People Analytics, Talent Technology and third-party vendors to build out learning offerings and improve insights and tooling for Shopifolk
  • Connect the dots between each Talent Management offering so it's clear how our end to end system connects all of the pieces into a simple and strategic experience for Shopifolk
  • Build and maintain Talent Management's roadmaps and planning documentation, helping to organize and coordinate activities across the team
  • Flex and work across other areas of Talent Development, as needed

Qualifications

This might be the right role for you if:
  • You have experience delivering and designing Talent Management programs and you understand the challenges of scale and the complexity of managing global programs
  • You nerd out on human behaviour - what motivates people, what makes high performing teams, and how people grow over time
  • You like being part of a dynamic team and are willing to jump in to help whenever needed
  • You love research and going deep into the details of a specific problem, building solutions, measuring results, and zooming out to see the big picture
  • You're mega organized and love projects - spreadsheets, project management, and deadlines are your jam
  • Communicating complex systems in a simple way is fun for you
  • You're willing to dive into challenging conversations with the goal of improving working relationships
  • You're knowledgeable about software and how to use tools to create delightful user experiences

It's great if you also have:
  • Educational experience in Talent Management, HR, Org Psychology, or Org Design
  • Knowledge of HR software tools and systems
