Job Details

At Shopify, RnD refers to our thousands of engineers, data scientists, UXers and product managers - in short, the people who build the product that makes commerce better for everyone. The RnD Programs team ensures Shopify RnD is the world's best place to grow, thrive and GSD, or "get shit done". We do this, in part, by designing and delivering world-class technical learning programs that support all aspects of the employee journey.

We are looking for someone to join our Learning and Development team as a Learning Program Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying learning needs amongst our population of stakeholders and learners, and working collaboratively to build, pilot, run and grow successful learning programs. Because this role serves Shopify's technical RnD teams, we are seeking someone with deep experience in engineering, data science, user experience design and/or product management who is also highly fluent in best practices for adult learners in a corporate setting.

You'll be charged with solving for learning needs and growth opportunities for a wide range of audiences at Shopify. You will partner with learning designers, subject matter experts, stakeholders and facilitators to build and deliver educational programs. You will manage projects as well as programs, and constantly leverage data to establish priorities and report on impact. Communication will be central to every aspect of your work, and you will tailor messages and delivery channels to each audience you work with. At all times, you'll be asked to ensure all of our programs meet our high standards for adult learning best practices, experience quality and learner engagement.

If you are passionate about educational effectiveness, let's talk! We would love for you to join us to push boundaries as we define the future of technical learning at one of the world's fastest growing tech companies.

Responsibilities:
  • Build strong relationships and conduct ongoing needs assessments with stakeholders from RnD crafts (Engineering, Data, UX, Product) to identify organizational learning needs.
  • Maintain a constant practice of user research through surveys, interviews and social listening with our learner population, and regularly share actionable insights back with the team.
  • Work with Learning Designers to craft new programs and program improvements.
  • Manage end to end projects to build or enhance learning programs based on well-defined problems and goals.
  • Manage programs through all stages of the program lifecycle, keeping them running smoothly, constantly monitoring health and looking for opportunities to improve.
  • Drive buy-in and excitement amongst stakeholders for projects and programs, and leverage that excitement to engage Subject Matter Experts to help build and deliver programs in their field of expertise.
  • Market your programs, working with known channels and discovering new ones to drive demand and enrolment.
  • Manage program delivery, including operational tasks like scheduling delivery sessions, messaging participants, and operating surveys.
  • Design and action measurement strategies to evaluate program impact, demand and quality.
  • Think and act systematically and with a mind for scalability, ensuring that documentation, assets, and processes are optimized for use by the greater team.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years experience as a learning & development specialist in a corporate setting, with demonstrable examples of innovation and impact.
  • Deep experience working with one or more technical disciplines: software development, data science, UX and/or product management.
  • Strong stakeholder manager and user researcher; can dig past surface-level statements to identify root causes of problems and challenges.
  • Expert organization and project management skills.
  • A history of action orientation in finding and solving problems within and beyond what's assigned to you.
  • Familiarity with best practices for learning program design, delivery and management across instructor-led training, eLearning and blended learning models.
  • Experience and comfort in working cross-functionally within a large corporate setting to get things done.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with experience adapting tone and messaging to your audience; effective at "internal marketing."
  • Analytical thinker that uses data and judgment to make good decisions.
  • A doer who can think strategically while maintaining attention to detail on operational tasks.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment where experimentation is encouraged and you are confident in creating, executing and championing those experiments.
