Design Technologist (Remote, Americas)

Design Technologists utilize design thinking, technical expertise and rapid prototyping skills to bring fresh ideas to life. They are just as comfortable working in design tools as they are working in Shopify's development environment. Their approach enables product managers, designers and researchers to explore problem spaces that have technical considerationand propose viable, scalable experiences to real merchant problems. Design Technologists are language-agnostic and passionate about expanding their technical and design knowledge.

As a Design Technologist you will:

• Enable product teams to explore ambiguous problem spaces with coded prototype
  
• Pushour productsbeyond what our designers or engineers believe is possible.
  
• Educateteam members on prototyping
  
• Understand and contribute to Shopify's product strategy
  
• Consult with engineering teams on technical solutions
  
• Make good decisions quickly
  

Qualifications

• Broad skill set
  • You demonstratepassion and experience in a multitude of UX related crafts including but not limited to UX design, development, user research, content modelling, wire framing, visual design and user testing. You will be able to demonstrate through your work that you've practiced multiple crafts at a high level.
• Technically proficient in Front End Developmentlanguages
  • You are able to code in a wide range of languages and can demonstrate that you have built products or concepts with modern tool chains. You have proficiency in at least one major language and library or framework (such as Ruby and Rails, JavaScript and React) but are technology-agnostic and willing to learn new things as necessary to advance a project.
• Collaboration across multidisciplinary teams
  • You can facilitate communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary product teams.
• Natural innovators
  • You have an unexplainable urge to build new things. Utilizing rational thinking you have the ability to walk through problems logically and design experiments for testing a hypothesis.
• Innate curiosity
  • You are a self starterand lifelong learner.You have an innate curiosity about the systems around us and how they work.
