In this role you'll be:
  • Helping diagnose and optimize org health and effectiveness by working with Talent partners and senior leaders across Shopify.
  • Consulting with other teams and senior leadership to understand their needs, gathering context through secondary research and existing data, and proposing tailored diagnostic approaches which include surveys or other methods.
  • Helping design actionable recommendations in partnership with Talent Management and other speciality teams.
  • Designing and conducting assessments as part of our employee listening strategy, or as ad-hoc needs arise.
  • Helping maintain and evolve our assessments platform through providing support and training to fellow researchers and other teams using our platform
  • Leveraging organizational psychology/behaviour principles, in your design of employee feedback mechanisms, qualitative team diagnostic tools (think co-design workshops or 1:1 interviews), and research plans.
  • Partnering with our People Analytics and Insights Operations teams to pair your qualitative research findings with their quantitative people data to drive even greater insights into our org health, and help continuously measure progress.
  • Helping scale our survey platform in Talent by building processes, resources, tools, and training.
  • Running exploratory and evaluative research into team and org phenomena, and acting as a subject matter expert to teams needing support on these topics.
  • Mentoring fellow researchers and others doing research on Talent, sharing knowledge on a variety of methods, and helping to evolve Talent's research best practices.


Qualifications

Requirements for the role:
  • Deep assessments expertise. You are passionate about designing the right survey to capture complex constructs like motivation, team effectiveness, wellbeing, and trust.
  • Experience with quantitative analysis like factor analysis, regressions and correlations.
  • Strong consulting skills, with ability to build high-trust and influential relationships with employees and leaders at all levels, educating them on when and how to run assessments.
  • Educational background in I/O Psychology, Organizational Behaviour, Social Psychology, Human Factors, or Sociology and applied experience on how to integrate these concepts into your results and recommendations.
  • Hands-on experience scoping and prioritizing research questions, conducting needs assessments, designing surveys, analyzing data, summarizing and sharing findings in a digestible format.
  • Overall experience with mixed-methods research. Methods must include survey design and in-depth interviewing.
  • Demonstrated ability combining your research and assessment expertise with creativity, scrappiness, and critical thinking, as well as lead a project from start to finish.
  • Open to working through ambiguity and embracing change, adept at quick context shifts, and can see opportunities where others see challenges.
  • Passion and curiosity for cultivating a positive employee experience, and the factors that help employees feel most engaged, connected, and impactful.

Bonus experience:
  • Experience assessing leadership or other competencies.
  • Experience in advanced analyses like item response theory, multi-level analyses, and natural language processing.
  • Strong visual skills in building out intuitive and visually appealing data visualization and the ability to leverage different communication mediums and visuals to share your research findings.
  • Experience helping to scale a research team and mentor others about research.
  • Track record for building trust with internal stakeholders remotely.
