Technical Designer

TECHNICAL DESIGNER

Hill House is seeking a proactive, organized, results-oriented Technical Designer to take design concepts and bring them to final product.  This role will lead the review for all Design specs, measure all fit samples, organize fit meetings, create and update tech packs, and communicate with our vendors. This candidate will have an expert level of proficiency in Womens RTW fit and garment construction, have excellent accuracy, attention to detail, and strong communication skills. The role will report directly to the Senior Designer.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review initial specs from Design including first proto tech pack & design details
• Align on method of measurement as set by Design
• Work with Design to create initial development tech packs
• Own all construction, technical measurements, technical trims and updates in tech pack
• Measure all Fit Samples prior to Fit meetings
  • Own follow up on sample send dates
  • Own fit tracking tool with follow up on fit approval dates/at risk styles
  • Points of Measurements should be added on a style to style basis depending on the needs of the individual design
  • Label tags with comments and re-attach to samples

• Fit Meetings
  • Owning fit time scheduling and booking of fit model
  • Managing and structuring the fit meetings to maximize fit time
  • Send fit comments in a timely manner
  • Provide detailed fit analysis on styles with major issues and offer solutions
• Update Tech Packs
  • All bulk samples should be measured and input into tech pack
  • Log measurements on spec sheet in tech pack for reference
  • Outline all fit comments for each round of fit samples with detailed notes and necessary diagrams for vendor fit updates
  • Recap all comments on fit page
  • Update construction details pages as needed
  • Add updated sketches to tech pack
• Vendor Communication
  • Proactively follow up with vendor to set up meetings and clarify all fit comments
  • Resolve fit questions and comments with vendors
  • Send fit comments in PDF format via email to vendor
  • Review and request patterns and correct execution issues as needed
  • Upload all documentation to Dropbox

ABOUT YOU

• 5-7 years of Technical Design experience working with wovens and knits
• Strong understanding of apparel and fabric behavior on the body and attention to detail
• Expert level of proficiency in fit and garment construction, specifically women's RTW wovens and knits, including tops, bottoms and dresses
• Create and update specification tech packs, including graded measurements and construction details
• Manage all aspects of fittings, technical issues and product evaluations
• Communicate deviations from calendar, facilitate resolutions and resolve issues
• Participate in research and development of quality standards for the Technical Design department
• Influence and navigate through difficult situations with little or no supervision
• Work out of the box, multitask and juggle ad hoc projects and processes for quick accurate turnaround
• Partner closely with Design and interpret design intent
• Experience with Excel
• Must be located in NY area with ability to commute to Manhattan office
• Preference with pattern making experience
• Ability to embrace a culture of learning and advocacy
• Lived experiences with people from different backgrounds and diverse teams
