Job Details

We're looking for a Senior UX Manager to help us understand and explore our next set of challenges. We need someone capable of building opinions using research insights, data, and experience. Someone who is comfortable defining goals, direction and strategy, but also comfortable getting into the weeds and working hands on with their teams. At Shopify, leaders sketch too. They thrive on change and operate on trust, leveraging the diverse perspectives of the people on their team in everything they do. We're fascinated by how you think, how you break down problems, and come up with solutions. We look for those who question, who are optimistic but never satisfied, and always seek to do better and make better. We love those who always want to deeply understand why people do things and how to improve.

As the Senior UX Manager for Checkout, you'll be growing and leading a team of product and content designers, helping to craft and push forward our highly-converting, trustworthy and flexible Checkout, which powers hundreds of thousands of small and large businesses worldwide. You will also contribute to our UX leadership team and helppushour UX practice into the future of commerce.

You'll be working on:
  • Leading UX for Checkout Experience, establishing clear definitions of quality to enable your team to redefine and push towards exceptional user experiences.
  • Working as a strategic partner with leadership in Engineering and Product Management to define the overall strategy and direction for the Checkout Experience group.
  • Ensuring that our Checkout can adapt to diverse customer and merchant needs around the world. We need you to help us consider the breadth and depth of these challenges and provide simple, scalable experiences.
  • Helping your team balance speed and quality in the short-term, while driving the team towards an ambitious long-term vision
  • Contributing to our growing Checkout design system

Qualifications

  • A strong systems thinker: you know how to balance stewardship of a design system against speed of innovation, and will help other teams ship into Checkout while maintaining quality
  • An eye for detail and craft excellence: you will foster a team that ensures that our Checkout is accessible, usable and performant
  • Identifying opportunities to improve: you will help bring a culture of experimentation to the UX team and continuously iterate and optimize on behalf of our merchants
  • Deep experience with driving and applying user-centered design processes across design, content strategy, and research while working with cross-functional teams including development, and product management
  • Expert knowledge of the end-to-end iterative product design process, including how to develop and use personas, job stories, journey mapping, content modeling, wireframing and prototyping, user testing, and high fidelity visuals
  • Experience leading a team in a multidisciplinary UX environment. Ours includes research, design, front end development, and content strategy
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills; you have the ability to help your team and stakeholders understand the "why" behind your design rationale

  • Your application should include alink to your portfolio, or some samples of projects you have worked on or led a team through.
  • In the Message to the Hiring Manager field, please share details of your previous management experienceincluding the size and scope of teams you have led.

Tools of our trade:
