We are looking for an organized and detail-oriented General Accountant, to join our Finance Department. This is a perfect opportunity to be a part of a fast-moving, dynamic, and international team full of passionate colleagues. You will be based in our office in New York reporting to our Finance and Operations Director.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The general accountant is responsible for the general ledger maintenance, account reconciliation and monthly accounting closing cycle for our US and CA entities. This includes everything from regulatory compliance with accounting standards and practices to working with the finance team to ensure an accurate closing.

The role is cross-functional and requires someone who is comfortable working with people from other teams on invoices, expense reimbursements, and other various financial matters. The role is a newly created position, and you will play an important role in defining accounting processes, driving optimization, and providing support to our internal and external stakeholders while being responsible for all GL accounts and reconciliations. A successful general Accountant can remain focused under the pressure of demanding deadlines and competing tasks.

Furthermore, you have technical accounting knowledge and are familiar with the latest accounting standards, principles, and practices. You are meticulous and have an attention to detail, highly organized and good at record-keeping. Also, you have professional experience from a similar position, or you have solid experience from an accounting function within an international company

THE RESPONSIBILITIES AHEAD OF YOU:

The positions responsibilities include timely closing and control of all GL accounts in the PnL and balance sheet and review all GL for appropriate booking and classification prior to closing. You will audit process, and book credit card statements. Furthermore monthly accrual/prepayment reconciliation and preparing month end accrual tracking and assist in month end closing. You will reconcile vendor and customer statements, research, and correct discrepancies as well as review, post and reconcile bank statements. Additionally, tasks like maintaining files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices and assisting on preparation of support documentation for external auditor.
You will be responsible for consignment agreements, settlements, and reconciliation of all major department stores and reconcile credit card payments from B2C and general bookkeeping and assisting our AP team in Denmark with various adjustments.

Furthermore, the responsibilities will include:

  • Monthly marketplace reconciliations
  • Depreciation and fixed asset control
  • Accounting point of contact for all retail stores reconciling cash deposits, float, and expenses
  • Inventory reconciliation
  • Assist our in-house AR responsible with various reconciliations and booking of incoming payments
  • Handle chargebacks for our retail and e-commerce in collaboration with our customer service team
  • Process checks requests
  • Prepare monthly client invoices
  • Produce 1099 during the year-end
  • Collaboration in accounting related projects
  • Assist with other projects and ad-hoc reports as required

MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS: 

You have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and 1-2 years work experience in an office setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You have great knowledge of accounting basics, such as debits & credits, and how transactions flow through the Income Statement and Balance Sheet. It is preferable, that you have Audit experience and knowledge of Navision Microsoft Dynamic, Medius Flow, Zexpense and Google Sheets is a plus. It is also prefferred that you have strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and v-lookups.
