We are looking to add a Senior Internal Auditor, who is expected to work EST core hours, to our

growing risk and internal audit teams. This role will report to an Internal Audit Lead and play an integral part in Shopify's success by assisting in the design and execution of activities to support the function. Internal Audit is a key governance function for Shopify. It provides an internal, independent, and unbiased health check on how strategic areas of risk are being managed across Shopify. This person will focus on the development and execution of risk and internal audit activities across Shopify.

In this role you will be:
  • Planning, conducting, and reporting on internal audit activities
  • Analyzing and synthesizing information to identify improvements to address control gaps, operational inefficiencies, and/ or mitigate risk; and, develop well-founded and clearly articulated recommendations
  • Managing project schedules and expectations of multiple cross-functional stakeholders
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships across multi-functional and global teams
  • Supporting establishment and continuous improvements including evolving internal audit processes, tools and templates

Projects you could work on:
  • Risk assessments of critical operational areas to provide management insights into their business and ensure that key risks are adequately monitored and managed
  • Pre-implementation reviews of projects/ programs to ensure that management is effectively identifying and managing respective risks prior to launch
  • Deep dive analyses of specific merchant scenarios to understand root cause and connect the dots across multiple functional areas
  • Internal Audit and/ or cross-functional initiatives that are intended to mature and evolve risk management at Shopify
  • Assist in the piloting of a new audit management tool


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years experience ina risk, consulting,internal audit or related role
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Curiosity and passion to constantly learn new things across a broad range of products and technologies
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple project assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, overseeing the process and delivering on commitments
  • Analytical and critical reasoning skills with a passion for problem solving, strong attention to detail, and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to navigate and discuss complex issues with any level of management, and to influence perspectives
  • Ability to thrive in a fully remote, fast-moving, ambiguous, and constantly evolving work environment
  • Ability to work autonomously and also as a part of a team

Bonus experience:
  • A professional certification related to audit (e.g., CPA, CIA, CISA, CRISC, CISSP) or currently working towards one
  • Experience assessing risk or conducting audits in a public company and/ or conducting audits with an operational/ strategic focus
  • Experience in high-growth global technology and/ or financial services companies
  • Experience with data mining data analytics, science, or visualization tools (e.g., Alteryx, Tableau, R Studio, Rapid Miner, SAS, MiniTab)
