As a (Senior) Data Scientist in the Market Insights team, you will make an impact on one of Zalando's biggest business opportunities: supporting long-term customer relationships through trustworthy, competitive prices.

To do this, we use state-of-the-art AI methods on large amounts of multi-modal data (images, text, structured) and human-in-the-loop systems. The Market Insight team uses webcrawl data from all relevant European web shops to find product matches between the Zalando assortment and competitors.

By using computer vision, image processing, and NLP, we enable intelligent, competitive pricing. You and your team will use machine learning at scale, e.g. i) to find exact product matches through text and image recognition algorithms, and ii) to classify product attributes which helps in building our insights platform. In doing so, you can build on Zalando's existing research results, e.g. Fashion DNA embeddings (https://arxiv.org/abs/1609.02489), on highly scalable state-of-the-art infrastructure, and on existing, huge data sets (both internal and external).

  • Bring your strong scientific experience in researching and deploying machine learning and deep learning based solutions to help our millions of customers in their inspiration journey.
  • Tackle challenging state-of-the-art fashion problems, such as competitor product matching against Zalando articles using Image- or Text-based matching. Combine multi-modal approaches for natural language, images, and structured data with human-in-the-loop deployment models.
  • Contribute to our scientific efforts with rigorous peer reviews and through publications in international conferences.
  • Mentor junior and mid level applied scientists. Actively collaborate with other teams and share knowledge and expertise within our talented applied science community.
  • Work closely with applied science leaders, product managers and other business stakeholders to bring our state of the art solutions to the customers and to discover and identify new opportunities.
  • PhD or MSc (or comparative experience) in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics, with at least 4 years of industry experience in Machine Learning/Data Science/Deep Learning.
  • Experience building and leading complete ML products; from the problem analysis and data selection to their production deployment.
  • Great coding skills in Python and hands-on experience with ML libraries such as sklearn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow, as well as experience with Cloud Computing frameworks (e.g., AWS).
  • Deep understanding of the theory behind the state-of-the-art methods in your domain as well as a broad overview of Machine Learning and Deep Learning methods and best practices in their application
