JOB PURPOSE

Burberry plc., a global multi-billion-pound luxury fashion business, is seeking to hire a UK&I Inventory Lead Accountant on a 12 month FTC basis. The role is part of Burberry Business Services (BBS) organisation.

In addition to relevant technical accounting expertise, this position requires a strong understanding of provisioning, line management and process improvements.

The successful candidate will actively participate in the standardisation and process improvement of various Supply Chain Finished Goods existing processes, reporting and provisioning and manage the Stock take process for EMEIA & AMERICAS. The role will be responsible for supporting Finance/FP&A and collaborate with, but not limited to, Retail Ops, HR/R&R/Payroll and Burberry Business Services to maximize transparency of information between the functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Delivery

  • Responsible and accountable for the end-to-end solution and performance of an integrated set of journals, reporting and provisioning processes for GB10 Supply Chain Finished Goods.
  • Responsible and accountable for end to end completion of month end calculations and analysis for Group Finance including PURP (provision for unrealised profit), Season to Spot and Flow through margin.
  • Delivering monthly and ad-hoc internal reporting on activity to finance and operational teams to aid in business decisions
  • Completion and review of Inventory GB10 balance sheet reconciliations & GB10 Total Inventory Stock Disclosures
  • Responsibility for the management of bi-annual Stocktake process for EMEIA & Americas. Including;
  • Planning and liaising with Regional Operations teams in advance of stocktakes to create schedule of activity for Stock take periods
  • Allocate resource from BBS Finance to cover stocktakes and manage team/resource including escalation of issues during the process to ensure completion
  • Weekly reporting during stocktakes to the business on activity and variance by store
  • Reporting to Asset & Profit Protection Teams on EMEIA & AMERICAS stocktake results, managing query resolution and identifying exceptions by store for further investigation.
  • Key contact for Group Finance, Internal & External Auditors for all Stock take related queries
  • Managing and mentoring indirect report activities including reviewing and approving transactions, journals, balances and reports in the course of BAU, ad-hoc requests and the Stock Take process.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Group Policies, including operating of internal controls over financial reporting
  • Managing the various internal stakeholders and accompanying change management programmes to oversee successful service delivery
  • Role may require work on some weekend/public holidays during half year and year end, and bi-annual stocktake periods.


Leadership

  • Ensure there is the necessary clarity across the team about roles, goals, timescales and standards and that work is carried out to expected standards
  • Ensures that Group Finance, Finance Business Partners, Operations and BBS business goals and performance objectives are reflected and achieved in the process improvement projects and operations of the end-to-end process


Continuous improvement

  • Sets future process and service direction and alignment to RTR and business Finance strategies
  • Apply understanding of assigned business process to identify gaps and propose continuous improvement measures
  • Work closely with the process owners and team leads to understand root causes and represent process procedures, practicalities and exceptions
  • Proactively seeks feedback from the Group Finance, Finance Business Partners and Operations specialists, as well as the delivery team, and uses this to inform future delivery of services.
  • Works with other Burberry Group functions to leverage potential upgrades or consolidate shared systems and processes.


PERSONAL PROFILE

Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional accounting qualification is required e.g. ACA, CA, ACCA or CIMA.
  • Requires excellent understanding of IT systems and processes
  • Must have advanced/excellent excel skills and working with large data sets
  • Must be able to fully grasp the broader issues and provide functional guidance to the finance team.
  • Has track record and appetite for delivering continuous improvement. Able to generate commitment to change amongst own team.
  • Can provide evidence of working collaboratively with peers and standalone capability.
  • SAP training and experience is a plus.
  • Worked within a multicurrency environment, analysis and understanding the impact of movements in exchange rates across the business
  • Experience of managing direct and indirect reports is preferred
