About the Role

The Manager, Chemicals Management is responsible for interfacing with internal and external business partners to implement Gap Inc.'s Sustainable Chemistry strategy, including supply chain implementation of the ZDHC MRSL and the ZDHC Wastewater Guidelines. Duties will include tracking and communicating supply chain performance on key chemicals management KPIs; interfacing with internal and external business partners to improve supply chain performance; and contributing to development of technical resources for internal and external business partners.

This role sits within the Global Sustainability team and reports to the Sr. Manager of Environmental Capability Building. The role will require cross-functional collaboration and relationships, including with Sustainable Chemistry; Product Sustainability; Data Insights, Operations & Reporting; Supplier Sustainability Field team; Sourcing; Product Integrity; and others as deemed necessary. This role will engage directly with global vendors and facilities with an emphasis on capability building. Chemistry knowledge is required; experience with textile chemistry and sustainability is preferred.

What You'll Do


  • Maintain internal supplier lists for facilities participating in Gap Inc.'s chemistry & wastewater quality programs.


  • Leverage data platforms to collect and analyze chemical inventories, wastewater testing data, and other relevant information from vendors. Refine strategy for tracking and analysis of supply chain chemicals data.


  • Track supply chain performance. Interface with internal and external business partners to manage remediation and corrective actions.


  • Identify training needs, develop training materials, and organize supplier trainings on chemicals management, wastewater treatment, and other topics related to chemical risk in the global supply chain.


  • Support brand sustainability and innovation goals related to chemicals by researching, developing, and helping to communicate sustainable chemistry expectations and recommendations to suppliers.


  • Contribute to relevant working groups (within SAC, AFIRM, etc.) aimed at advancing sustainable chemicals management in the apparel & footwear value chain.



Who You Are


  • Experience working with the textile/apparel supply chain


  • Experience with chemicals management or manufacturing in apparel, consumer products, or retail industries. Laboratory testing experience desireable; familiarity with MRSLs & RSLs / Higg FEM a plus.


  • Superior analytical skills and proficiency with PowerBI and MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)


  • High attention to detail, organization, and follow-through


  • Self-motivated and able to communicate at all levels


  • Good at problem-solving, strategic thinking, & planning


  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science or environmental engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
