JOB SUMMARY

Seeking a highly experienced Sample Room Director with strong leadership skills to oversee the RTW Pattern Room. The qualified candidate will serve as a liaison between the atelier (including Patternmakers, Sewers, Fabric Management, Cutters) and Head Designers ensuring timely and efficient processes and perfectly executed products and patterns.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITY
  • Fully accountable that all samples meet quality specifications and deadlines for meetings, shows, and Design deliverables
  • Partner on a daily basis with SC and Design teams to manage capacity and workflow
  • Ensure all products meet Tory Burch execution levels and all patterns to local and overseas suppliers are accurate and production-ready


Oversee and manage Sample Room support team throughout the cycle that begins with the creation of initial development and muslins the first Proto through fit samples and final commercial sample for handoff to factory for Pre-production approval
  • Responsible for all evolving sample needs and evaluating workload/staffing level of the Sample Makers and necessary support staff on a weekly, monthly annual basis
  • Coordinate with Pattern Makers, Technical Design and Product Development in order to ensure samples are ready for scheduled fittings with Designers and all Design needs for meetings as well as external, celebrity, Tory personal and PR events
  • Available for seasonal evening and weekend hours as needed and possible travel 2x / year for celebrity or VIP fittings


Manage Sample Room Process Flow
  • Manage and effectively communicate with direct reports and across teams so there is clarity with regards to directives and daily scheduling and deadlines
  • Ensure teams are following established product specifications standards (finishing and construction)


EDUCATION & PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive experience working in a luxury Sample Room leadership role
  • Pattern making experience
  • Experience with Optitex and Clo (or Gerber or Lectra as back up)
  • Expert knowledge of physical draping as well as pattern to production experience
  • Must be able to interpret design intent and create alternative solutions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-end Sample Room and in partnering with cross-functional teams to resolve problems with a demonstrated ability to problem solve, commercialize and execute
  • Dedicated team player with an understanding of managing both direct reports and communicating effectively across an organization
  • Ability to manage under pressure with tight and shifting deadlines and an understanding of calendars and "drop dead" dates
  • Comfortable multi-tasking through overlapping seasonal deadlines at every point in development, fitting and commercialization
