Lead Commercial Planning & Trading Pre-owned

As Lead Commercial Planning & Trading you will play a key role in defining and executing the commercial growth strategy for Pre-owned. Pre-owned is Zalando's fast scaling business unit that purchases like-new pre-owned fashion (aka second hand) from selling customers and re-sells these products in the Zalando Fashion Store. In this role, you will forecast, plan, steer and manage our pre-owned assortment and sales growth in the most effective way. You will contribute to the customer satisfaction and commercial success on both sides of our pre-owned fashion offer: For customers who shop pre-owned products with us as well as for customers who sell their lightly worn fashion back to Zalando.


Pre-owned is part of the Recommerce business unit, Zalando's circularity and fashion resale team. We enable everyone to refresh their wardrobes in a more sustainable way - by providing fresh, quality-checked second hand assortment at an unmatched level of convenience. We provide customers with the opportunity to sell their lightly worn items (Sell), and buy pre-owned fashion (Pre-owned). We define "pre-owned" as second-hand-fashion items from popular ("highstreet") brands that are in like-new condition, which we present in a high-standard environment.

We are at an early stage of the business: We launched the Pre-owned proposition on Zalando's Fashion Store in 2022. The proposition is currently live in 13 Zalando markets. Pre-owned is a strategically relevant topic for Zalando group, contributing to our customer promises, our strategy of being the starting point for fashion and the circularity goals in our sustainability strategy (do.More).

Within Pre-owned, the Commercial Planning & Trading team is responsible for commercially steering and scaling our proposition, taking tactical and strategic decisions to support commercial growth and customer satisfaction.

  • Own the Pre-owned plan in terms of buying and selling. Define commercial targets and drive commercial steering in close collaboration with Business Development, Operations and Finance colleagues
  • Lead the commercial steering discussions, managing our performance against targets and developing commercial recommendations to drive performance, leveraged by data-driven insight generation and compelling data storytelling
  • Develop an in-depth analytical understanding and commercial framework for our Pre-owned buying and selling offer
  • Define and manage key performance indicators to assess our commercial development and performance
  • Provide clarity on large scale strategic topics by translating them into research questions and analysis concepts
  • Lead a team of Commercial Analysts to forecast and steer our business. Empower them in creating excellence in analytical thinking & commercial acumen.


'Act like an owner'

  • You hold an MBA or Master in economics, finance, engineering, statistics, business management or comparable qualification
  • You have gained 3-5 years of work experience in a consumer-oriented commercial, financial or analytical role
  • You are a strategic commercial thinker with outstanding analytical skills. You have strong technical skills in Google Sheets / Excel, and Google Slides / PowerPoint. SQL is a plus
  • You have a good commercial and financial understanding of an e-commerce and/or retailing company. P&L understanding in an e-commerce environment is a plus
  • You communicate clearly and in a structured way with colleagues with different backgrounds and across teams
  • You are business-fluent in English
