As a Merchant Engagement Manager (APAC) you'll work across the Shopify portfolio to establish and grow relationships with our merchants to drive retention through collaborative interactions. By creating local experiences and content that delights, your objective is to build community and increase engagement with existing merchants in order to help them grow and scale. To achieve this, your focus is to ensure we remain relentlessly relevant. Everything we create and bring to market is designed to meet the ever-changing and vastly diverse needs of our merchants.

With a regional focus you will be a key merchant advocate for APAC. Every day you'll use your strong relationships with merchants to help identify and amplify insights and learnings from a mixture of virtual and IRL activities, back into various Shopify teams, to broaden exposure and empathy. You'll continuously advocate internally that all teams solve for the customer -- you are their biggest fan within the company and understand that their success is our success, with a focus on our growing and prioritised Key Account segment.

This is a role that spans teams, regions and time zones so working collaboratively with all stakeholders and different teams is part and parcel of what makes this role great.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and host virtual and IRL engagement events to connect and amplify Plus merchants, with a focus on Key & Strategic account experiences. Including programs such as Virtual Assemblies, Product Labs, Unboxed and Executive Roundtables
  • Act as the Engagement ambassador for Merchant Success, working closely with the APAC Merchant Success Managers to build a consistent feedback loop and develop deeper, more connected and informed merchant relationships
  • Share key insights internally with relevant Shopify teams (Product Marketing, Customer Marketing etc) to broaden merchant exposure and opportunities
  • Develop creative assets and content that scales merchant stories and supports key narratives in priority markets (ANZ, SG, JP)
  • Collaborate with the APAC Revenue Marketing team to integrate Engagement programs as well as localise and launch global marketing priorities
  • Test, iterate and learn with new engagement initiatives within sub-markets or countries within APAC, working closely with Partnerships, Merchant Success, Product and Sales teams as appropriate and aligned with GTM strategies
  • Continually assess the effectiveness and the impact of your regional initiatives against KPIs
  • Drive forward the future of community and the definition of advocacy at Shopify, by working closely with other regional Merchant Engagement teams (EMEA and AMER) and the Global MEC (Merchant Education & Community) team


Qualifications

  • High-level platform knowledge and the ability to communicate the key features of Shopify Plus
  • Marketing experience and / or the ability to articulate how the strategy and impact of specific campaigns and initiatives can support business goals
  • Strong interpersonal skills that support interaction with a diverse range of stakeholders, including technical audiences and senior management
  • Illustrated experience hosting and facilitating online and IRL discussions/presentations
  • Strong attention to detail, with the unique ability to capture and communicate merchant goals, requirements and organisational nuances to others
  • Exceptional writing skills and ability to craft messaging for multiple internal and external audiences
  • Understanding of ecommerce best practices, industry trends, merchandising, marketing, etc
  • Ideas for collaboration across Shopify teams, especially to engage key stakeholders
  • Previous exposure and experience working with the diverse cultures that make-up the APAC region
  • Always-on awareness and interest in company marketing initiatives and major announcements


A Regional Engagement Manager is:
  • A creative problem solver. You can navigate resources and escalate issues comfortably within Shopify
  • Well-read and genuinely curious about, and up-to date on industry intel
  • Proactive and comfortable with autonomy to deliver across multiple competing priorities
  • A great listener and can ask great questions
  • Merchant obsessed, with a keen view to optimise the merchant experience via community and connectivity
  • Comfortable and practiced in using initiative to GSD, especially with cross-team and time zone collaboration


Bonus points:
  • Fluency in a second language of the APAC region
  • Experience mentoring or leading others
