About the Role

The Gap Inc Global Franchise and Strategic Alliances, consisting of Athleta, Old Navy, Gap, and Banana Republic, today extends to over 40 countries across Latin America, Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa and the Middle East as well as several additional countries serviced through the online business. Within this organization, we're looking for a Director of Strategy to drive the strategic vision of Franchise by identifying, quantifying and leading key long-range planning growth initiatives and identifying new market opportunities in support of these initiatives. In this role, you'll be responsible for influencing executives of all levels across the Gap Inc business to support Franchise strategic priorities. You will manage a team who will own researching and identifying potential new markets and partnerships and building our knowledge of franchisees worldwide in support of the ongoing growth plans as well as tracking the current health of existing accounts and partnering with the Account Management team on strategic growth plans for these accounts. You'll also collaborate, influence and strategize with the entire Franchise cross functional organization in an effort to ensure the strategies are threaded into every aspect of the business. This role is critical to the continued growth of franchise so we're looking for an individual who is innovative, excels in influencing at all levels, thrives in ambiguity, self-starting, and able to spearhead the team toward a common goal.  

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate and influence with leaders across Franchise, Brands Senior Leadership, and Gap Inc Leadership to drive Franchise strategic growth
  • Partner with International Business Strategy team to identify and operationalize growth opportunities
  • Lead and inspire functional team toward common goals with the purpose to successfully grow the Gap Inc billion-dollar brands
  • Leverage market data, historical sales and inputs from brands, partners and internal team to build 5 year long range plan identifying strategic growth focuses by brand/ country/ channel/ operating model
  • In partnership with Business Analytics and Finance, develop a bottoms up 5 year financial forecast incorporating the long range plan strategies that provides a view to the high/mid/low financial view, identifies required investments, and flags risk
  • Influence Franchise LT and Gap Inc Senior Leadership to align to long range plans and invest in key opportunities
  • Communicate finalized long range plan focuses to wider Franchise and Brand teams and ensure these are incorporated throughout each of the functional goals so that all teams are consistently standing for the same strategies internally and externally to the accounts
  • Monitor progress towards LRP/Budget, support cross functional team in prioritizing new business opportunities and ensure new deals are on track to achieve seasonal deadlines
  • Lead Strategy and Business Development/Account Management team in developing Market Specific deep dives and own presentation of these to Franchise LT, Brand SLT and Gap Inc SLT
  • Identify and quantify brand and operational growth priorities and propose priority focuses to the Franchise LT
  • Build and drive the Franchise omni strategy to adapt to the changing needs of our customers globally and partner with cross functional teams to bring this to life
  • Partner with Account Management team to drive regional strategies that focus on key growth opportunities with existing accounts
  • Partner closely with Brand Strategy counterparts to ensure they are considered, supportive and aware of Franchise growth priorities


Who You Are

  • Interaction with a breadth of functional areas across various levels of the organization
  • Ability to collate and triangulate multiple data sources to identify and prioritize business growth opportunities
  • Strong financial forecasting experience
  • Experience in managing a team
  • Expert in all Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Proven ability to lead in a global, fast-paced, & matrixed environment
  • Completes quality work on time
  • Excellent written, verbal communication skills; ability to articulate point of view
  • Influencing at all levels & making decisions cross-functionally
  • Comfortable & confident in dealing with ambiguity, change & flexing of priorities
  • 7+ years of experience in retail with at least 3+ years in a strategy or financially based role
  • Ability to travel globally and work evenings and weekends when required
