Shopify Ecosystem is a team that helps create a community of partners and products which enable and amplify our merchants' businesses. The Operations team in Ecosystem is a cross-functional team linking together Shopify's ecosystem marketplaces and ensuring that the day to day and future operations support the growth of the product and new markets. We do this through deeply understanding supply, demand, quality, and trust, while looking at different scenarios and potential outcomes from an operational perspective to help inform our product teams on success.

As Shopify continues to grow, expand its geographical footprint and develop new product offerings, avenues for fraud and policy violations constantly evolve. The Ecosystem Risk and Fraud team's job is to stay ahead of both existing and emerging trends within our partner ecosystem and enable the Partner Governance team to quickly mitigate risk for known vulnerabilities.

As the lead of Ecosystem Risk and Fraud, you will lead a growing team of analysts to help Partner Governance identify patterns of fraud and abuse, and to work proactively to address and eliminate them through technical solutions, advanced analytic techniques, and tooling.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Identify and develop comprehensive fraud risk management detection and prevention methods that strike a balance between our developer experience, merchant trust, and business requirements.
  • Coach, and develop your team of analyst to perform in a fast-paced environment to achieve stellar results while driving the overall vision of the team
  • Generate KPIs and reports on the success of our fraud and risk systems and to highlight emerging trends
  • Support the Governance team to swiftly address risk by develop controls and tripwires that act as early warning risk indicators for potential new or existing patterns of fraud and abuse
  • Lead root cause analysis on reactive cases of fraud and abuse to build out new methods of detection and reactive scanning
  • Work cross functionally with Operations, Engineering, Data Science and Product teams to implement product solutions and tooling


Qualifications

  • MBA or MS degree in Finance, Analytics, or Mathematics
  • Or Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Analytics + 4 years work experience
  • 5+ years of risk management experience, ideally in a tech company
  • Experience mitigating online fraud, such as fake reviews, copyright infringement, spam, phishing, misuse of data (especially personally identifiable information), terms and service violations, and bots
  • Accomplished quantitative analytical experience, including a background with statistical models and linear regression
  • Ability to analyse large datasets and interpret ambiguity
  • Exceptional SQL and Data analysis tooling skills
  • Excellent written and oral skills - including the ability to create narratives, turn complex pieces of information into succinct and digestible pieces, and to make recommendations on courses of action
  • Preferred certification of CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner)
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills - you are able to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Grit: you are conscientious, resilient, and dedicated to achieving excellence and driving results
  • Superior time management and organizational skills - ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines and address challenges in a collaborative team environment
