Tech Lead Software Engineer, Discovery Experience (Remote, Americas)

Every day our merchants navigate a high volume of content on our platform to fulfill orders, respond to customers' feedback or check their inventory. Without intuitive search and tailored recommendationsthese tasks would be impossible. The Discovery team builds the foundational platform and features to overcome these challenges. This is a role where you can redefine what search and filtering means and what the future of the platform will look like.

We're looking for a Tech Leadto lead the technical direction and to help build a new discovery service from scratch. The discovery service will power our information retrieval system and will help our merchants and their buyers navigate the ever-increasing complexity of their business. You'll get to work with great developers to build and grow a crucial piece of our platform, and to ship world class products on a global scale.

What You'll Work On:

• Take the lead on building high quality, globally available, fault-tolerant streaming pipelines.
• Work through problems with your team, roll up your sleeves, form an opinion and advocate for engineering-specific roadmap items
• Mentor team members
• Work collaboratively with other disciplines and teams across Shopify
• Grow the team through internal development and external hiring

Qualifications

• An interest in the principles of building highly scalable streaming systems and data pipelines
• A proven track record of strong technical mentorship
• Proven technical leadership skills using technologies and frameworks like (but not limited to) Java, Kotlin, Apache Beam, Dataflow or Flink and Apache Kafka
• An interest in writing efficient and optimized code with low latency requirement
• Deep understanding of how to design and build an extensible service platform
• Curiosity and passion to constantly learn new things; Shopify changes fast, and we need the people who work here to be able to change and learn fast too
