Finance - New Grad Position (Remote, Americas)

Finance at Shopify is a great place to hone your technical skills and get exposure to the Shopify product inside and out. Over the past 3 years, the Finance team has grown from 30 to almost 150 people! In that time, the company has successfully completed multiple follow-on equity offerings, an inaugural convertible note issuance, has closed several acquisitions, and opened entities around the world to support international growth.

Who are we looking for? We feel that the best way to learn is not always in the typical classroom, but through practical experience, hard work, and passion. If you love challenging yourself with financial or accounting-related projects, reviewing the finances of business both large and small, and thinking outside the box, then keep reading!

Shopify is looking to hire new graduates for 12 month contract positions. These are remote positions, and the successful candidates will work from home. The process is open to university and college graduates in Canada and the U.S. who are located in the Eastern Time Zone and have completed a business or commerce program in the last 2 years. Start dates for successful applicants will be in May 2022.

Being a new grad in finance at Shopify means that you get to make an impact and get stuff done. In your application, you will choose your top 2 choices from 4 streams:

Tax

• Support with the preparation of tax returns
  
• Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions
  
• Assist with the preparation of transfer pricing computations
  
• Assist with government tax audits, including indirect tax, income tax and SR&ED audits, and respond to external auditor's queries
  
• Research and analyze various tax issues
  

Treasury

• Assist with administration for our operating bank accounts
  
• Support the preparation of both cash and foreign exchange forecasts
  
• Support with foreign exchange trading and initiation of wire transfers
  
• Analyze merchants' eligibility for Shopify Capital
  
• Assist with the advancement of Shopify's treasury management system (Kyriba)
  
• Develop and support reporting for our $6B investments portfolio
  
• A degree in information systems or data science is also acceptable for applicants to this role
  

Controllership

• Support the month/ quarter/ annual close process
  
• Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements
  
• Assist with the implementation and testing of financial reporting systems relating to new Shopify products and process improvements
  
• Conduct research on complex technical accounting issues and draft preliminary position papers
  
• We are seeking a candidate who is in pursuit of a CPA designation
  

Investor Relations

• Track and maintain financial and product performance disclosures and equity analyst estimates to surface insights and inform discussions with analysts
  
• Conduct financial and peer analysis to inform Shopify's narrative and communications to Wall Street and Bay Street
  
• Stay informed on Shopify's stock performance as well as general market trends

Qualifications

• University or College graduate from Commerce, Finance, Accounting or Business program
  
• Proven ability to take initiative and work independently as well collaboratively in a remote team environment
  
• High attention to detail in a fast paced environment is key in this role
  
• Ability to thrive on change and make great decisions quickly
