The Sustainability & ESG Reporting Manager leads the environmental sustainability pillar of Neiman Marcus Group (NMG)'s Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) strategy and helps develop NMG's ESG disclosures. The ideal candidate will successfully lead cross-functional teams to help the company achieve Net Zero, increase revenue from sustainable products and services, and produce ESG disclosures that strengthen its reputation with investors and leading ratings and rankings agencies over time. They will also work closely with People Services Business Partners to drive awareness and adoption of NMG's sustainability and ESG reporting initiatives within each business pyramid. Candidates should have a proven track record of leading enterprise-wide change; improving companies' performance on a variety of technical environmental sustainability issues; and issuing ESG disclosures in line with leading frameworks from the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Task Force for Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and/or the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).


The ideal candidate will successfully lead cross-functional teams to help NMG:

Achieve Net Zero
  • Enhance processes to identify climate-related risks and opportunities in line with guidance from TCFD
  • Advise Facilities Management team on trends and best practices in energy efficiency and renewable energy as they reduce Scope 1 & 2 emissions 50% by 2025 and procure 100% renewable energy by 2030
  • Partner with Facilities Management team to regularly measure progress against the goals above and disclose it to CDP on an annual basis
  • Collaborate with Spend Management and Supply Chain teams to identify and implement best practices that measure and reduce Scope 3 emissions from key categories like Purchased Goods & Services, Transportation & Distribution, Waste, etc.
  • Manage NMG's membership and engagement in groups like RE100, US EPA SmartWay, and the Retail Industry Leaders Association's and National Retail Federation's sustainability committees
  • Foster a culture of sustainability through ongoing organizational communications and education

Increase Revenue From Sustainable Products & Services
  • Partner with NMG's Responsible Sourcing Manager and the Humane Society of the U.S. to lead implementation and ongoing compliance with NMG's fur-free commitment and Animal Welfare Policy
  • Oversee the maintenance of Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman's forthcoming Edits for sustainable and ethical products, ensuring merchants and brand partners stay up-to-date on trends in sustainable and ethical fashion and have the support they need to identify and buy more relevant products over time
  • Manage NMG's Textile Exchange membership and use it to help NMG increase adoption of preferred materials in its private label lines
  • Advise Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman teams on ways to improve their circular services related to garment mending and alterations, shoe and handbag restoration, resale, and donation
  • Collaborate with brand Marketing teams to increase sustainability messaging in customer-facing materials

Produce Annual ESG Disclosures
  • Develop recommendations to enhance ESG reporting in line with luxury fashion and retail industry peers
  • Work with NMG's ESG Steering Committee to collect data for the company's ESG disclosures
  • Partner with Audit team to increase the reliability of ESG data and its assurance over time
  • Manage the production of NMG's annual ESG report and its SASB, GRI, and TCFD indices
  • Collaborate with Investor Relations team to incorporate ESG into quarterly earnings
  • Stay up to date on ESG reporting regulations and ensure NMG's compliance
  • Strengthen NMG's reputation and relationships with leading ratings and rankings agencies like MSCI and Sustainalytics

  • Five or more years of work experience in environmental sustainability and/or ESG reporting inside a matrixed corporation
  • Deep familiarity with ESG reporting frameworks and ratings and rankings agencies, including - but not limited to - SASB, GRI, TCFD, CDP, MSCI, and Sustainalytics
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams and/or multi-stakeholders groups to drive positive and equitable change
  • Capacity to work through ambiguity, make decisions, and communicate with executives with minimal direction and oversight
  • High ethical standards and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Experience with luxury, fashion, and/or retail industries preferred
