Director, Engineering - Omni store systems

We seek top talent for a high-visibility role to join the leadership team to drive and transform the Omni Store systems systems engineering landscape. This is a progressive, forward thinking organization that believes in a product culture and agile ways of working.

This role will be responsible for managing our Omni Store systems that is leveraged extensively by our internal associates. This includes several custom applications & tools built using best in class open-source frameworks & cloud native tools & libraries.

This role will be responsible for delivering new system capabilities and aid in transformation and augmentation of our store systems landscape leveraging their knowledge of Cloud native skills & application technologies like React, React Native, Javascript/Typescript,NodeJS REST/GraphQL and databases(NoSql and Relational).

This role will also lead a team of dedicated Neiman Marcus employees onsite and offshore along with 3rd Party partner team members both onshore and offshore. This position also acts as a functional and technical leader for our product teams. The successful candidate must be highly effective and influential in a matrix structure of functional business areas, building teams and IT sourcing strategies. The successful candidate will be a strong leader who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of building well architected systems delivery on time and on/under budget, and obsession about the customer experience. Must have very strong technical background to participate, solution and challenge technical solutions.

Qualified candidates have extensive experience building product roadmaps, working with product owners to prioritize the backlog, champion progressive thinking and delivering products/tools & capabilities that meet rapidly evolving business needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Directly building, managing and leading an engineering team focused on delivering world-class omni channel digital solutions for our store selling systems landscape.
  • Recruit, motivate, mentor, and lead the best application engineering talent
  • Lead and deliver technical innovations in support of emerging business needs and progressing these ideas from concepts to experiments to scaled models with focus on flexibility, reuse, and overarching extensibility.
  • Define & Review global product roadmap, technical debt & architectural improvements and sequence the delivery of these appropriately.
  • Develop and manage a change management process that delivers consistent cadence coordination and stakeholder acceptance throughout the enterprise.
  • Champion Agile and DevOps as a means to improve operational process and increase velocity of the team.
  • Leading application development and support vendor identification, evaluation, and selection to staff project delivery roles that meet delivery standards across quality, throughput, and budgetary\return-on-investment goals from both internal and external teams.
  • Owning direct accountability for overall project/program delivery of your development teams and vendors ensuring the successful execution and delivery of projects that meet scope, timing, and cost goals.
  • Partner with Digital & Enterprise architects to lead and implement architecture best practices across Store and associate facing systems.


ESSENTIAL ABILITIES, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor or advanced degree in IT, Computer Science, business or related field.
  • Prior experience in working with organizational change management/leadership and process change management.
  • In-depth experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems.
  • 15 or more years of IT systems experience in one or more of the following areas, with demonstrated progression of responsibilities:
  • Application delivery (preferably in Store systems (Mobile Point of Sale, Point of commerce, Clienteling systems) /Ecommerce/web/Mobile apps etc)
  • Enterprise-scale application management
  • Software product management
  • IT/system product design and product strategy
  • Business process reengineering
  • Organizational development
  • Passionate about enabling next generation experiences.
  • 5 or more years experience in a leadership role with direct reports and people management responsibilities.
  • 5 or more years of experience managing and being accountable for budgets.
  • 5 or more years of experience with Agile software development.
  • 5 or more years experience in business process and/or technology implementation.
  • 5 or more years experience managing third party vendor relationships and offshore development teams efficiently to achieve business outcomes.
  • 4 or more years experience at a manager level or above delivering global IT capabilities for a multi-national company with annual budgetary responsibilities .
  • A engineering veteran in digital space having worked their way up through the programming ranks, developed great skills and instincts for creating great software.
  • Must be a hands-on technical leader and should have proficiency building applications delivered at scale leveraging React, React Native or similar and consuming API based backend built on Cloud based infrastructure.
  • The new tech stack is based on React, React Native while the legacy Store systems software is based on C++ . The older apps need to be supported as you create new and innovative versions on the new apps with the newer technology stack
  • Working experience with Cloud based technology including proficiency with RESTful and GraphQL based API backends
  • Expert in leveraging and evolving a Continuous Delivery/Integration pipeline and QA Automation to drive agility.
  • Knowledge of (and a passion for) current trends and best practices in frontend architecture, including performance, security, and usability
  • Track record of successfully building cutting edge products leveraging AWS cloud-based systems along with building in robust offline capabilities for high availability of applications
  • Strong understanding of architecture patterns and operational characteristics of highly available and scalable applications.
  • Experience building large-scale web services, micro-services based application in the cloud environment.
  • Must have prior experience solutions/managing/developing large scale teams across multiple geographical regions
