About the Role

The Asia Pacific Region is of growing strategic importance to Gap Inc.

The region is home to:
•Several Gap Inc. teams (Retail, Sourcing, IT) with access to differentiated talent
•Vast consumer market and burgeoning commercial market of companies seeking to serve the US consumer potentially powered by our platform-as-a-service offering
•Existing vendors and new ones we'd need to onboard as we scale our pursuit of strategic adjacencies, e.g., Home, Health/Wellness, Workwear/Uniforms
•Several technology and supply chain partners, as well as early stage innovators we seek to collaborate with
•Agencies and officials we need to continue engaging on the ground to better manage the business in this age of connected commerce.

The importance of this region to Gap Inc's business model cannot be exaggerated.

In this role, you'll be defining the best path forward for our business growth in the region. Your objective will be to answer the question of how to strategically leverage Asia-Pacific more, to accelerate the pursuit of our Gap Inc. Power Plan 2030, championing the enterprise's mission, values, strategies, and strategic interests across this geography.

The role is critical to defining future growth opportunities for Gap Inc. in largely untapped markets across Asia Pacific. This growth may come from a variety of channels, for example business-to-business opportunities, partnerships or other investments, and ways to monetize our range of existing assets. It may also include potential investments/acquisitions within the technology, innovation, ESG, or retail arenas which could help us to achieve our Power Plan 2030 and the overall diversification of our business.

Through rigorous analyses, creative thinking, a deep understanding of our existing business, and strong external market scanning capability, you will develop the strategies for our New Businesses in Asia Pacific. You will be responsible for defining and evolving strategy, and identifying untapped markets and both organic and inorganic growth opportunities where we may have structural advantage. You'll work with others to "size the prize" and prepare strategy documentation and business case analysis to the Vice Chairman to enable fast decision making, funneling opportunities into a set of key priorities for business development teams to go after. You'll monitor progress as teams begin to hunt opportunities, and evolve & refine strategy based on collective insights and learning "from the field".

This role will also play a crucial role in ensuring connectivity and coordination with Asia based business operations and Chief Growth Office in the US, a force multiplier for the Growth office acting as a proxy for the CGO and coordinate efforts to drive strategic priorities.

What You'll Do

  • In partnership with Gap Inc. brands, platform leaders, as well as with the Asia-Pacific team business development managers, develop and deliver strategies to unlock the full potential of Asia-Pacific in support of enterprise goals
  • Follow up progress made to ensure the plans are delivered
  • Provide insights, information, and recommendations to better manage risks arising out of developments in Asia-Pacific, and - similarly - access to opportunities in support of the Power Plan 2030 strategy
  • Nurture (and/or develop) key relationships within Asia-Pacific - both preexisting as well as those with potential - in support of Gap Inc's growth agenda
  • Communicate and champion Gap Inc's strategy, mission, and values across various external existing and potential partners throughout Asia-Pacific
  • Orchestration of projects or initiatives directly involving the CGO and direct reports.
  • Maintain effective communications with the leadership team, providing awareness of critical issues confronting projects/ initiatives and of the action plans for addressing those issues.


Who You Are

  • Entrepreneurial mind-set and a bias for action: The Asia-Pacific team is newly-created in Gap Inc., and needs to quickly demonstrate the value it can add, unlocking growth opportunities and directly contributing to our achievement of Power Plan 2030.
  • Team player: The initial team will be small, so you need to be able to develop quick connection and bond with others - helping and supporting each other to deliver a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
  • Previous, increasingly responsible work experience in business development and growth roles, ideally from within supply chain, apparel, retail, management consulting, or private equity environments.
  • Demonstrated track record as an outstanding strategic thinker and problem solver - Flexible, highly independent, positive can-do attitude, proactive in making business connections.
  • Strong analytical skills: Ability to collect, organize and analyze large / complex data sets efficiently and effectively, to arrive at actionable insights that support our growth objectives.
  • Financial & business Acumen: Knowledge and understanding of financial touch points and strong business acumen. Ability to distinguish great opportunities from a long list of possibilities.
  • Problem Solving & Decision Quality: Able to use rigorous logic and methods to solve problems effectively
  • Risk Management: Ability to think ahead and catch problems before they arise.
  • Organizational Savvy: Able to build constructive and effective relationships within complex, matrixed environments and leverage them for the greater good.
