Position Description

As Director Sustainable Product in this fast-pace and high-performance environment you and your team are the sustainable product expert hub for PVH EU and Tommy Hilfiger Global. You enable others by 'owning' the topic, being aware of relevant (industry) developments and their implications, initiate and drive necessary change, support, advise & fulfill a gatekeeper role for the business departments, inspire and act as sparring partner for the company.

In this role you co-create the short term strategy (in collaboration with the VP Sustainability) and implementation, annual target setting, sustainable product team management and delivery & reporting against targets as well as stakeholder engagement. You ensure the team and organization are set up for success by creating the structure and processes required to serve and engage the business accordingly (e.g. by offering trainings, continuous dialogue, assess and act upon needs etc.).

You act as project lead/owner to facilitate the implementation/operationalization of sustainable practices in the business; from innovation and raw materials projects to on-product communication and product information. At the same time you translate this work into clear progress reports / communication tools and compact and clear leadership level information and support.

Team

The Sustainable Product Team is part of the Sustainability Department with falls under the wider Sustainable Business & Innovation Department (SB&I). It is the go- to-place for the business for everything related to sustainable product. It supports and enables the business in the long-term commitment on circular and inclusive products. The need for support in the business continuously increases as the appetite for sustainability guidance on materials, waste reduction and for example on-product communications about sustainability grows rapidly.

The sustainable product team consists of 7 FTE with 3 core focus areas:

Sustainable Product Definition Sustainable Materials (including raw materials, packaging/waste, processing). Circular Product Design.

In this role you have 3 direct reports:
  • Senior Manager, Sustainable Product Definition (managing 3 FTE)
  • Senior Manager Sustainable Raw Material Sourcing (managing 1 FTE)
  • Manager Circular Design.

Due to the increasing demand for support of this team, 4 new team members and one maternity cover are onboarding in Q1, early Q2 2022.

Key Stakeholders (besides the team):
  • Internal stakeholders: Sustainable Business & Innovation, Supply Value Chain Department, Brand Divisions Leadership, Denim Center of Excellence, Product Development, Merchandising, Design, Markets, E-com, Marketing, CR, PVH Corp.
  • External stakeholders: sustainable materials certification and support organizations, SAC, WWF, Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Fashion for Good etc.

Focus

Cater for products to be fully circular, and part of a sustainable loop. By 2030, our products will be designed, produced and (re)distributed in line with circular business principles, enabling all materials to be a part of a sustainable biological and technical loops after the end of their product lifetime.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Set, implement and drive progress on sustainability goals for PVH EU/TH Global, in close collaboration with PVH Corp and other key stakeholders.
  • Manage the Sustainable Product team and set them up for success (e.g. to achieve goals, grow, stay healthy and have impact).
  • Develop a sustainable product vision - based on existing strategy -, structure, procedures and processes for PVH EU/TH Global.
  • Project manage/facilitate sustainable product programs (e.g. on traceability, sustainable materials, certification) and progress in line with SB&I Strategy and divisional plans and goals.
  • Understand and cater for customers (B2B) and consumers (B2C) needs.
  • Drive, facilitate and monitor effective and continuous sustainable product communication to customers (B2B) and consumers (B2C), in close partnership with Product Development, Sourcing (SVC), Design and Marketing.
  • Structure the review process for product related marketing communications to the business to speak about sustainable product as much as possible, in a low-risk manner, in line with the Brand Sustainability concept.
  • Ensure operational excellence for sustainable product development from concept to communication.
  • Provide up to date expertise and continuous knowledge transfer to leadership and divisions, e.g. through, regular updates, training and education and digital materials.
  • Create transparency (reporting) and accountability for progress within the business.
  • Frame governance & policies for sustainability claims (i.e. through certifications management, claims guidance, vendor onboarding procedures, innovations reviews etc.).
  • Create awareness for new sustainable product developments/initiatives and assess if/how they can be implemented, if relevant.
  • Engagement with/management of in- and external stakeholders, including partners and consultants.

Requirements:
  • Senior sustainability expertise (10 + years)
  • Experience with leading a team of senior high-performing experts
  • People manager
  • Be and enabler, empower and coach for the team, e.g. in defining priorities, deliverables (long and short term) and personal development.
  • Strategic skillset and hands-on mindset
  • Proven track record in making impact
  • Desire and capability to work in a large, fast pace & changing environment
  • Committed to getting things done from start to finish.
  • Owns (and/or has the desire to own) the topic and is accountable for it.
  • Ability to lead in times of uncertainty or change
