The Senior Buyer is responsible for strategically partnering with management to create and execute the merchandise strategies for assigned departments to meet or exceed financial plans while acting as a leader with cross-functional teams (Planning & Allocation, Design, Product Development, Production, Visual Merchandising, Field Merchandising, etc.)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train and develop direct reports, serving as the leader of the business, while simultaneously allowing team and cross functional partners the creative freedom and opportunities to act as the managers of their individual departments
  • Work with VP/DMM and MM on company and divisional objectives, executing top level strategic initiatives to meet financial goals
  • In season departmental management to identify key opportunities; analyze the business and react with timely chase buys, cancellations, and promotional pricing suggestions to maximize business
  • Aligns with Planning on seasonal receipt plans for the department by classification. Plans will support merchandise strategies, penetration shifts between core and fashion, and climate/store tiering opportunities in order to deliver topline results
  • Works in partnership with Design, Product Development, and Production to develop and edit categories, ensuring product supports financial strategies and ensures strong communication regarding details/changes
  • Creates balanced assortments in terms of: brand appropriateness, fashion vision, quality, fit, value, IMU, style/SKU count and key item depth. Fully understands historical results by key program and item to ensure future line covers business needs
  • Ensure effective communication with the field organization. Solicit frequent feedback and integrate into future strategies
  • Acts as expert on competition, including pricing, style & key messaging and uses knowledge to make sound recommendations for classifications
  • Collaborate with Visual Merchandising to drive marketing and in-store presentation
  • Foster an environment of continual training and development
  • Builds relationships through effective collaboration & participates as a solution oriented team member

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6-8+ years of Merchandising/Buying experience; in Men's a plus
  • College Degree
  • Strong manager and leader of cross-functional teams
  • Must be highly organized & possess excellent analytical acumen
  • Efficient computer skills, including MS Office Suite
  • Flexible to deadline demands, ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Will have significant influence to financial accountability. This role is integral in driving style/color assortment, cost decisions as well as investment by store tier
  • Must demonstrate a solid understanding of fashion trends/customer insight and provide input to Design relative to business needs
  • Motivation to exceed plan
