Job Summary

The Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting is responsible for overseeing consolidation and financial reporting, corporate and technical accounting and related control functions as well as supporting strategic projects and initiatives as needed. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable US GAAP and reporting requirements, timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting and leading a team of accounting and financial reporting professionals. This position requires excellent analytical and problem solving skills, deep knowledge of accounting principles and processes, broad knowledge of accounting/reporting software and systems, financial reporting capabilities and strong leadership experience. This role is responsible for directing teams of professionals, optimizing processes, establishing cross-functional relationships and serves as the primary point of contact for business partners in various other key functional areas, including Accounting/Finance, People Services, Legal, IT and Operations. The ideal candidate is skilled in project management, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, resourceful and a strong communicator.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide direction, prioritize workload, and evaluate personnel needs with respect to corporate and technical accounting and financial reporting teams to ensure that workflow is planned and executed in a timely manner.
  • Support team development in both technical areas and soft skills, provide regular feedback and growth opportunities, and support an environment of excellence through collaboration.
  • Support and implement organizational People initiatives within the accounting and financial reporting teams, including with respect to DE&I, engagement and career pathing among others, and encourage team participation and involvement.
  • Maintain ownership over the consolidated financial statements and related reporting to ensure compliance with GAAP and reporting requirements, including assessing and implementing new accounting pronouncements and guidance.
  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly and annual external reporting (generally consistent with Forms 10-Q and 10-K as well as earnings releases, earnings call scripts and various related data validation requests), including management of internal and external review processes, audit processes and responding to ad hoc information requests.
  • Assists with preparation of presentation materials for executives and board members as needed, including monthly financial packages.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the organization with respect to accounting and reporting guidance, including communication with organizational leadership, cross-functional collaboration to ensure appropriate application, and coordination of audit processes.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to coordinate and ensure timely and accurate budget and forecast submissions, support variance analysis and provide insight on financial trends to interested parties.
  • Manage relationships with third party service providers and experts, including quarterly and annual valuation processes around self-insurance reserves, intangible assets and equity.
  • Create, implement, and maintain comprehensive accounting policy documents and internal control documentation, as applicable, and partner with internal/external auditors as well as business partners across the organization to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • Review and optimize processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness, including through the use of system automation, and ensure that existing processes are operating as expected. .
  • Support cross-functional initiatives and decision-making, including with respect to ad hoc information and analysis requests, situational modeling, due diligence, technical research and consensus-building.


What We're Looking For:

  • 10+ years of direct management experience, including supervising remote team members and leading/growing a diverse team.
  • 5-7+ years of experience with SEC disclosure and reporting requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business or related field required; master's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • CPA certification required.
  • Big 4 Public Accounting or similar experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of US GAAP, SOX compliance, and regulatory requirements; mastery of technical research techniques and the ability to interpret and apply guidance to complex topics and transactions.
  • Familiarity with large ERP and ERM systems required; Oracle GL and EPM experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with reporting tools, including Essbase and Wdesk, preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including ability to distill and communicate information to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop others, communicate expectations, provide constructive and timely feedback, and hold self and team accountable to established goals.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and utilize a wide degree of creativity and latitude to accomplish goals and complete projects with minimal supervision.
  • Strong understanding of interdependencies with cross-functional stakeholders and business implications of decisions; ability to collaborate, consult and partner with all levels and work well in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (verbal and written) to communicate effectively across the organization.
  • Proven success leading process improvement initiatives and managing projects.
  • Ability and comfort with working and leading a team in a remote and/or hybrid environment.
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Office and communications/collaboration tools (Excel, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Sharepoint, Word, etc).
