About Banana Republic

Banana Republic was founded with an explorer's spirit and a desire to venture to new places, beyond the boundaries of the everyday. Our clothing is designed for a life with no boundaries.

We travel near and far in search of the finest materials and fabric innovations to infuse style with substance, because we believe that what you wear should open a world of possibilities. And the people that make up Banana Republic share the same qualities as our brand: curious, connected, undaunted by boundaries. Sound like you? Join us for the adventure of what's next.

About the Role

A dynamic writer to tell our brand story and create the narrative around our products. This role is responsible for crafting the storytelling for all Banana Republic Factory markets and sites and pushing the brand forward through smart, engaging copy that inspires and informs the customer across all touchpoints. You will be the master of messaging and shepherd and shift the message depending on where it appears. Through close collaboration with editorial, design, photo, visual, social, PR and marketing/business partners, you will translate broad creative ideas into tight concepts and executions that resonate within our markets. This role will bring a nuanced, localized lens to all projects, as well as a strong editorial and fashion point of view. The ideal candidate will be able to connect stories and messages to the larger world of fashion, culture and key seasonal trends -while always remaining true to the voice and vision of Banana Republic.

What You'll Do

  • Work closely with the editorial team to establish seasonal stories for all global markets: write, build and adapt international storytelling around product heroes and brand franchises
  • Develop and concept messaging for brand marketing initiatives and special projects (pop-ups, invites, mailers, regional partnerships, store events, in-store signage, scripts, etc.)
  • Align storytelling for each campaign with BR specialty to ensure consistency, driving creation of end-to-end copy across all channels (digital, social, paid media, site, email, retail, PR, etc.)
  • Provide thought leadership and lead brainstorming/working sessions around seasonal planning meetings, weekly marketing/production/merchandising touch-bases, creative reviews and content meetings
  • Partner closely with regional marketing teams to ensure that all messaging is relevant to respective regions, taking translations and cultural nuances into account
  • Support social projects and initiatives across channels (ex: special product launches, promotions, etc.)
  • Relentlessly review all copy and creative, checking for context, spelling, syntax and tone
  • Ensure marketing copy does not sound like "marketing speak" and delivers an always elevated voice with a spirit of adventure, as defined in the BR Brand Voice document
  • Review all site refreshes in staging
  • Manage feedback from creative reviews, update and pivot based on business needs and SLT notes

Who You Are

  • EDUCATION & PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED
  • Experience writing, editing and honing brand voice, with a deep knowledge of fashion, style and culture
  • Strong digital fluency

  • 4-6 years of relevant work experience
  • Master wordsmith: strong writer who challenges the status quo and knows when and how to shift tone; understands that five words, if the right ones, can have the same impact as a beautiful image
  • Critical thinker: ability to challenge the norm and think outside the box
  • Visual storyteller: knows how to package stories and franchises
  • Editor's mindset: culturally tuned-in and can translate a marketing brief or investment/buy into a compelling story
  • Team player: must be able to work with different types of people and departments
  • Curious: always looking for and thinking about new ways to do things, shake up the process
  • Detail driven: highly organized, with meticulous attention to the little things
  • Creative problem-solver: flexibility to balance editorial and business needs
  • Entrepreneurial spirit: self-motivated, with the ability to multi-task, adapt and re-prioritize
  • Self-editor: ability to research and fact-check
  • Nuanced: understands the difference between clever and cliché
  • Positive attitude: a sense of humor
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Keynote and user-friendly content management systems
