About the Role

The Vice President of Global Transportation plays a crucial role in enabling our portfolio of brands by leading multiple transportation functions across the supply chain to deliver operational excellence, strategic solutions, and cost optimization. This leader will oversee the international transportation of product from our global network of manufacturing partners to our distribution centers as well as the outbound transportation to our customers (retail and eComm).

This role will manage internal, cross-functional relationships and oversee significant third-party supplier and vendor relationships to ensure on-time performance of the outsourced transportation network while controlling costs.The position is critical to Gap Inc. as it establishes the strategic direction and long-term objectives for the global transportation function and ensures that product moves throughout the supply chain. With budget accountability that exceeds $1B in annual transportation spend, global service accountability, and oversight of strategic relationships across hundreds of external service providers - the VP of Global Transportation role at Gap Inc. is highly visible and pivotal to Gap Inc's success.

The Vice President of Global Transportation is responsible for modeling Gap Inc. values and promoting the company culture while developing an inclusive and passionate leadership team. This role is based out of the Erlanger, KY (NKY/Cincinnati area) satellite regional office -with resources positioned across the globe.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a large, global operational team across the following functions:
    • International Origin Consolidation
    • International Inbound Freight Management (Ocean, Airfreight, Terminal Ops)
    • Domestic Freight Management (Transload Operations, Linehaul/Ground Operations, 3PL/ Store Delivery)
    • Campus Transportation Operations
    • Franchise and B2B Logistics
    • ECOMM Parcel Operations
  • Establish multi-year transportation strategies aligned with company-wide priorities and initiatives.
  • Use data-driven decision-making to deliver meaningful results that support the overall transportation strategy to drive competitive costs, adding value to all Supply Chain teams.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain relationships with strategic partners focused on innovation and continuous improvement -while ensuring adherence to contractual obligations and operational excellence.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal cross-functional brand and platform executives.
  • Ensure the execution of carrier programs to meet the capacity and service requirements of Gap Inc.
  • Enable development of environmentally sustainable carrier programs.
  • Provide guidance and establish strategic direction for contract negotiations for all global transportation services.
  • Analyze industry and market dynamics to assess and forecast transportation cost and service trends.
  • Develop and manage contingency plans to cost-effectively support varying levels of company sales, changes to supply/demand patterns, and to counter geo-political threats.
  • Represent Gap Inc. in meetings/conferences with professional groups such as RILA, NRF, American Trucking Association, NASSTRAC, FMC, IATA, Smartway, etc.
  • Serve on Carrier/ Supplier Advisory Boards to expand influence across the transportation industry.


Who You Are

  • Ability to motivate, lead and develop a large and global cross-functional team.

  • Experience managing a large Transportation P&L/ Budget and detailed knowledge of financial planning, P&L analysis, and margin improvement.
  • Strong history of managing external providers and developing Supplier Relationship models.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize data and metrics to drive decision making and optimization.
  • Deep knowledge of contracts, services, and pricing for global, national, and regional carriers.
  • Strong drive for measurable and sustainable results and operational performance management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience - 10+ years of work experience, with a strong preference in Supply Chain/ Transportation [MBA a plus]. Travel required.
