JOB PURPOSE

To lead the Technical Team and Atelier function to ensure the Jigsaw product is to the highest quality standard and is correct for fit. To ensure superior product by using innovation for fit, construction and quality of make across all product areas. Communicate, manage and drive the improvement of quality and fit of the Jigsaw product by analysing, reviewing, recommending and building strategic and tactical changes that bring the returns figure down and increases sales.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the team of Garment Techs, Pattern makers and machinists who make up the technical function; leading, mentoring and taking accountability for their output, the role is a balance of leading and active hands on work.
  • Development
  • Lead the day to day activities of the Development process and coach junior members of the team and share product knowledge and expertise Responsible for fitting and sealing samples from first proto through to production Support the design team in the creation of accurate prototypes. Provides feedback to the pattern cutter to bring sample room to a level where all patterns are finished correctly, accompanied by specs from development through to production hand over. Maintains smooth workload and on time delivery of samples generated by sample room Acts as a mentor for the sample room and tech team where required across all product categories. Work directly with the PD Manager on priorities for speccing, sealing and pattern cutting throughout the development and production CP. Attends Collection fit meetings with Creative Director and/or Designers during the development stage and advises on fit and construction across all product categories. Works with factories to achieve Jigsaw standards and resolve complexities at sampling stage for both CMT and FF styles across all product categories Takes lead on the review of fabric specification sheets from mills during sampling and production, with the Fabric Buyer to ensure the CMT fabrics are fit for purpose and meet all testing regulations and chemical compliance Leads by example to ensure the team keep an accurate and consistent account of fit meetings. Monitors and maintains the budgets for the Technical Responsible for our Gerber system, its running, maintenance, and recruitment of staff/pattern cutters who are Gerber trained Responsible for overseeing the Pattern Cutter in fabric costings/lay plans/digitising for first patterns and liaising with the Design and PD, and Sample room teams to ensure the work is delivered within the company critical path deadline across development and production

 

Production & Supply Base

 

  • Lead the day to day activities of the Production process to ensure product arrives in store, on time, to the approved quality standards. Possess an in-depth knowledge of supplier capabilities and influence the sourcing teams in terms of supply strategy and placement to optimise the quality and value proposition of the product. Attend fit meetings at the beginning of Production hand over and take notes to understand the construction and individual requirements of each piece. QC pre-production samples and work with factory to achieve Jigsaw standards and resolve complexities of make to achieve win win outcome. Oversees/check production patterns/grades prior to distribution to factory. To have a full understanding of grading and manages company grading in accordance with company grading rules.  Works with grading partners to ensure standards are met when required. Provides support to all categories to ensure consistency in fit and grading QC production at source in conjunction with Senior Garment Tech. Provides technical support for PD team when embarking on special projects or categories Keep accurate reporting records per style. Generate seasonal quality report per factory for internal use. Liaise clearly with suppliers and members of the PD team to overcome any quality issues Exceptional organisation, administration and prioritisation skills required. Implements AQL procedures within the supplier base Jointly responsible for the analysis and improvement in Jigsaw return rates in conjunction with the Global Sourcing Director. Focusing on continuous improvements through the analysis of returns and customer feedback, competitor awareness and industry feedback.

CSR and Ethical Trade; Help drive the ethical and sourcing standards for the group. Support Sourcing Director on Sedex supplier auditing and amassing of information. Seasonal plan for CMT/Patterns verses FF Seasonal work -load assessment for technical team Oversee block pattern library archive

  • Budget for production samples, freight, travel and freelance for 919 Reforecasting for production samples, freight, travel and freelance for 919 Budget monitoring per period for production samples, freight, travel and freelance Budget by period corrections and accruals Managing ad-hoc support with external freelancers including booking and budgets - Garment Techs, pattern makers, machinists etc.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Applicant should have a minimum of 8-10 years womenswear experience with 2 years+ at management level.  In-depth understanding of pattern cutting Strong working knowledge of Gerber.  They should act as a figure head for the sample room and Tech team and its direct reports.  High Expertise in construction and manufacture at the upper end of the High St to luxury level in all product areas, from tailoring, softs, jersey, knits and eveningwear Commercial eye and high taste level with an appreciation of high quality product In depth experience fitting garments and understanding garment construction of multiple categories and translating comments clearly to communicate with suppliers. Confident and articulate and possess excellent reporting, budgetary monitoring and communication skills with organised and structured approach They should have a sound and technical understanding of the development process from pattern creation through to production handover, covering all areas such a pattern preparation and finishing, specs and grading.  Good Excel and Powerpoint skills Comfortable working with PLM software systems is an advantage Excellent time management and very strong organizational skills They should understand and be able to implement AQL procedures at source within the factories as well as experience of Sedex auditing. Prepared to travel and ideally have worked with factories across Europe and the Far East on a CMT and fully factored basis.   This candidate should be able to think on their feet as well as being a team player.
