Director of Sustainability Impact, Transparency and Engagement

Reporting to our Global Executive Leader Sustainability, you will lead the center of excellence that is the operational backbone of Zalando's Sustainability work.

Supported by a team of +20 people working among Strategic Project Management Office (PMO), Data, Analytics & Transparency, and Sustainability Engagement, you will work closely with all of our sustainability experts, as well as our internal and external stakeholders to provide stewardship and steering across the business towards achieving our Sustainability goals and strategies

The main responsibilities are:
  • Lead updated Sustainability Operations Team strategy and organisation (organize, set-up and manage changes)
  • Develop and lead Zalando's transparency strategy
  • Develop and lead Zalando's sustainability compliance governance
  • Develop and lead Zalando's ESG strategy
  • Oversee internal governance structure (Sustainability Forum) support, data & impact measurement, reporting and engagement obligations
  • Engage and drive industry participation; acting as lead on specific transformational activities (ie: developing an industry standard, etc)

  • You define the vision for how Zalando will govern the enablement of our sustainability strategy, and your teams provide the tools, resources and talent to ensure that is accomplished;
  • You oversee the Sustainability PMO office, which is responsible for governance and driving of our public sustainability goals; and the Data, Impact & Transparency team as we push ourselves and our partners to transform the industry to have a positive impact;
  • You guide the Sustainability Engagement work to position Zalando as a credible sustainability leader within the fashion, tech and logistics industries;
  • You develop and lead the Sustainability Compliance governance, partnering closely with senior business leaders throughout the company to actively address our compliance obligations;
  • You act as a thought leader with internal partners, helping them to solve sustainability challenges; you advise the Management Board on relevant sustainability topics;
  • You monitor emerging global sustainability trends, innovation and regulation direction, and develop solutions to position Zalando as a sustainability leader.
  • You have sustainability knowledge and 15+ years of experience in the field of sustainability and leading complex topics across various business units.
  • You have proven ability to analyse complex problems and develop solutions that are industry-leading.
  • You have relevant experience in performance management, ESG and impact analysis.
  • You are recognized as a sustainability leader, with a strong network of thought leaders across business, academics, NGO and civil society.
  • You have a Can-do attitude and used to working under pressure while delivering high-quality results.
  • You have marked strong customer orientation skills, ability to successfully engage on senior leadership level internally and externally across multiple stakeholder functions.
  • You speak the language of business and drives towards solutions that will create sustainable changes in the industry.
  • You have outstanding communication skills and influencing skills and is extremely credible to both hands-on practitioners and executives, including our Management Board.
  • You have proven examples of success supporting tech and product departments in adapting and evolving partner services or solutions.
  • You have a pronounced focus on talent and leadership development.
