Merlette New York, a Brooklyn-based luxury womenswear brand is looking for a talented and motivated Design & Production Assistant. This is an opportunity with a fast-growing luxury fashion business with opportunity for growth.
This position is full-time and will be based in Merlette’s Brooklyn studio and will report to the Director of Design & Production.
Responsibilities:
Design
- Create and update technical sketches
- Participate in fittings and maintain archive of all fit photos
- Prepare previous fit notes, samples and product specification sheets before each fitting
- Create color/ material mock ups by sku for sms allocation
- Create and maintain updated design linesheet
- Manage style and BOM entry in Apparel Magic
- Create factory sample orders
- Prepare design boards and assist in design research seasonally Track sample packages internationally
- Manage an organized system of Photoshoot and SMS samples Assist in sourcing fabrics, trims, notions and supplies as needed Maintain an organized fabric, embroideries, and trims library
- Support day-to-day design functions Participate in weekly WIP calls for Photoshoot and SMS progress
Production
- Keep production files updated and assist with all administrative tasks
- Creation of style codes and UPC codes seasonally, and upload to Apparel Magic
- Creation of UPC charts for factories Manage an organized system of PP and TOP samples
- Update pricing and factory information in Apparel Magic Prepare costing excel sheets seasonally with new styles
- Run production orders and reports Keep an organized file of approved bulk fabric swatches, embroideries trims and notions
- Participate in weekly WIP calls for Production
The ideal candidate has:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design
- 1-2 years’ experience in fashion development, design, or production
- High proficiency in Adobe Illustrator is required
- Adobe Photoshop basic skills
- Microsoft Office Suite and strong Excel proficiency
- Required Knowledge in draping, pattern making, sketching, and technical flats
- Excellent organization skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Able to work in a fluid, fast-paced environment
- Very methodical and accurate with the ability to work to set deadlines
- Self-motivated with excellent use of initiative
- Excellent time management skills with extreme attention to product detail
- Strong communication and follow-up skills
- Eagerness to learn and grow
