Moda Operandi is seeking an Assistant Buyer who will support the Designer team in the development and execution of merchandise assortment and buying plans and achieving the sales & profit targets based on the seasonal business plan. This is a hybrid role with 1 day a week in our Brooklyn NYC office required.

Responsibilities:

  • Support in the management of a highly coveted luxury brand portfolio, ranging from some of the biggest brands in the world to the newest, emerging talent
  • Play a pivotal role in finding and procuring a best in class, fashion forward assortment, with an emphasis on discovery 
  • Monitor sales performance, purchase, stock level, delivery status and merchandise allocation of assigned product categories
  • Assist the buyer in planning and executing the buying process including analyzing and managing inventory, OTB and vendor relationships
  • Monitor and regulate the flow of merchandise for the healthy and effective stock level throughout each season to achieve sales targets and GP requirements and store efficiencies 
  • Prepare reports (daily, weekly, monthly) to update each collection and analyze seasonal merchandise performance
  • Support buying office and work cross departmentally with marketing and photo studios on the launch of seasonal brand trunkshows
  • Market research support and competitor analysis
  • Liaise with merchandise planning to provide insights for forecasting
  • Attend seasonal market  
  • Assist with seasonal buy, trend and strategy presentations 
  • Support the buyer in managing and guiding the department’s merchandise assistant, nurturing their development and training

Qualifications:

  • 2 years experience in the Assistant Buyer role, preferably in the luxury sector
  • Keen sense of fashion, the market and strong industry relationships
  • Strong understanding of Merchandising financials, retail math and the ability to manage profitability
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
  • Must be detailed oriented with high level analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational, presentation and communication skills
  • Team player and relationship builder
  • Flexible, nimble, able to maneuver in a fast-paced & high-growth environment
