TITLE: TRANSLATOR (Part-time - Temp contract)
REPORTS TO: Director Store Communications

POSITION SUMMARY:

Read, interpret and translate documents of a varied nature from English to French-Canadian, including but not limited to, retail marketing copy, announcements, policies and procedures, etc. Proofread and correct a wide range of materials to ensure that the meaning of the source text is retained, and that they are accurate for the French-Canadian audience. Establish productive peer relationships.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE JOB:

  • Assists primary Translator from the Tommy Hilfiger division with workload and ensures high quality and brand consistency, focusing on marketing and customer facing media, corporate announcements, signage, promotional material, retail directives, web copy, newsletters, policies and procedures, etc.;

  • Proofreads, edits, and revises and updates translated materials from several departments within the Company in order to maintain accurate and consistent terminology while ensuring it reflects the corporate image;

  • Ensures that projects are completed on time by prioritizing workload adequately;

  • Works closely with the TommyHilfiger Store Operations department to provide translated material in a timely manner to our French-speaking retail stores;

  • Collaborates with business partners to improve overall communication and translation processes;

  • Partners with other translators within the Company as well as external translators/vendors, when required;

  • Contributes to the in-house terminology bank and ensures its maintenance to provide language consistency within the Company;

  • Ensures adherence to all compliance and legal requirements of the Office Québécois de la langue française (OQLF);

  • May assist with sensitive and confidential communications;

  • Other related tasks as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Experience:
  • 0 - 2 years translation experience, an asset;
  • Retail experience, an asset.

Education:
  • Bachelor Degree in Translation, completed or in process

Skills:
  • Strong computer competency (MS Office, InDesign and SDL Trados Studio, an asset);
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines;
  • Ability to multitask and manage different projects simultaneously;
  • Excellent research skills;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Strong customer service skills;
  • Must be bilingual and possess impeccable French and English writing skills;
  • Strong oral communication skills in both French and English;
  • Ability to remain discreet and respect confidentiality.
