This role will serve as a senior legal advisor for all worldwide data privacy matters. Key responsibilities will include serving as the lead data protection officer, managing privacy policies and programs around the world, supporting the information security, digital marketing, e-commerce and technology teams, and managing commercial contracts affecting data privacy. In addition, the Senior Counsel will provide support on merchandising, licensing and marketing/public relations matters.

* This position is located in-person at our Corporate Headquarters in New York or possibility of working out of the Parsippany, NJ location.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Privacy and Technology
  • Serve as the global data protection officer
  • Manage privacy policies and programs, track legislation, manage operational compliance and remediation, and advise on the collection, retention and use of customer and employee data
  • Manage privacy-related litigation and regulatory matters
  • Draft, negotiate and review commercial contracts affecting data privacy
  • Support the information security and technology teams, working closely with the Chief Information Security Officer, as well as digital marketing and e-commerce teams
  • Support digital marketing/e-commerce and technology projects, including ad tech, brand analytics, third party match, search engine optimization, expansion of digital commerce operations to new markets, advancement of enterprise information management, implementation of embedded products/services and similar matters

Merchandising and Licensing
  • Support merchandising and licensing projects, such as product collaborations, license agreements and product compliance reviews

Marketing and Public Relations
  • Support advertising and public relations matters in areas such as claim substantiation/truth in advertising, media usage rights, third party I.P. clearance, advertising and media agency agreements, sponsorships, endorsements, co-promotions and influencer and model agreements

  • JD from accredited law school
  • 5-8+ years of professional experience with a law firm or in-house legal department focusing on data privacy
  • Outstanding writing, drafting and communication skills
  • Ability to use good judgment and demonstrate attention to detail
  • Ability to deliver complex legal advice in a business-friendly manner
  • Ability to balance large volume of work through effective time management and prioritization.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Mix of law firm and in-house experience
  • In-house experience in a retail environment
  • Prior experience with intellectual property, merchandising, licensing and marketing/public relations
  • Must be eager and able to learn new areas of law and how they intersect with the business.
