THE ROLE & THE TEAM
Zalando continues to grow fast and we continually evolve our business organization. As a Director of People & Organization (P&O), you take full ownership of the people's agenda and work with the business leaders to build and scale best in class capabilities for Zalando. The ideal candidate will be able to play both a hands-on and strategic role, providing Human Resources leadership and expertise in areas of Employee Relations, Coaching/Development, Compensation, Conflict Management, Organizational Development/Design, Employee Engagement, Recruitment, culture, DEI and much more. This person will be instrumental in initiating and driving P&O programs and initiatives within the new B2B organization and will coach clients who lead small to large teams, developing innovative solutions to deliver results, and championing Zalando’s culture and values. They will be able to collaborate closely with leaders to build a strong B2B organization and continuously help find, grow and retain the best talent available.

Zalando looks for an individual who can think strategically and create an inspiring vision as well as roll up their sleeves and dive deep into problems to bring forth practical applications. We are seeking an experienced Human Resources leader who can diagnose problems as well as identify and drive appropriate solutions. The role will require the ability to establish P&O priorities and operating mechanisms to drive change along with the ability to interface effectively with leaders at all levels. Excellent communication skills and data driven analytical thinking are required. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast paced and innovative environment where multiple priorities compete.

Strategic priorities will include designing and developing the organization, leading and contributing to P&O M&A activities, including integrating acquired companies into Zalando. Furthermore, sourcing and recruiting talent to build and scale unique capabilities should enable the company’s growth ambition while creating compelling customer experiences and enabling our partner business on the platform.

  • As an P&O Leader with a business mindset, seek to understand the business landscape, including competitors, staying current on industry trends

This leader will be known as a thought leader and will have a history of driving innovation that leads to tangible results. The ability to continuously see around corners to anticipate the talent needs and have strategies in place to meet the needs of a fast growing, dynamic business is critical. Most importantly, this leader will not have a playbook, but will always be innovating, testing new ways to develop top talent. The successful candidate will be known as a team builder as well as developer of talent and must demonstrate the ability to collaborate very well with clients and P&O central teams to meet business objectives.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF…
  • Ideally 10+ years of relevant experience as an P&O leader, including organization design and effectiveness as well as building leadership talent and culture.
  • Experience in building up multi-disciplinary teams as well as leading teams across multiple locations.
  • Prior experience in start up or portfolio type organizations with knowledge in building, scaling and developing businesses. Strong project management skills are required.
  • Experienced in working in high growth digital and/or technology services companies (organic and inorganic growth)
  • Navigating ambiguity: Proven track record of solving complex business problems, strong experience in organizational change, and a passion for embracing ambiguity
  • Business Acumen: Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into actionable insights for the people agenda
  • Analytical mindset: Ability to combine an analytical, data-driven approach with creative problem solving to drive continuous improvement and innovation
  • Strong leadership skills: Nurturing and growing talents and teams focused on building excitement and momentum for what is being built
  • Stakeholder management: Valuable team player with strong communication skills who collaborates effectively with all levels across the organization
