As a Zalando User Researcher, you will support product ideation and optimization through evaluative and generative research. You ensure that bad ideas fail early â€" and you inspire colleagues to iterate good ideas into great solutions.

You will impact a wide variety of products â€" from startup ventures to B2B solutions â€" in addition to Europe’s largest fashion portal. You will study a diverse range of customers, including high-profile fashion brands, style bloggers, internal users of enterprise software, and approximately 46 million consumers served by our flagship product.

Zalando’s Product Insights and Design community teams employ an evolving mix of traditional user-centred methodologies, Lean UX practices, and design thinking. Researchers work closely with designers and product managers to build the right solutions. User researchers at Zalando collaborate with our product designers, Product Managers, and the rest of the community to determine what features to build, how they should behave, and incoming projects’ priorities. To be most effective, we also build strong relationships with other internal teams. With market research, business intelligence, and product analytics, we ensure a holistic 360° understanding of customer needs and behaviours.

INCLUSIVE BY DESIGN

At Zalando, our vision is to be the starting point for fashion - one that is inclusive by design. We only assess candidates based on qualifications, merit, and business needs. We welcome applications from people of all gender identities, sexual orientations, personal expressions, racial identities, ethnicities, religious beliefs, and disability statuses. We only want to know why you’re great for this role, so please avoid including your picture, age, and marital status in your CV as well.

We want to provide you with a great candidate experience. Please feel free to inform us of any accommodations you may need, so we can best support and assist you throughout the hiring process.

WHY YOU SHOULD BE INTERESTED…

As a quantitative user researcher in our Voice of Customers team, you will lead by example and raise the bar for data-driven empathy.
  • You will lead customer facing research projects for Zalando's core customer experience. You will work closely with designers, product managers and analysts to create the best customer experience through product design. Your research will be one of the key data sources for product design decisions.
  • You will work within the Voice of Customers team, which is the biggest research team in Zalando and has qualitative researchers, quantitative researchers, mixed methods researchers, data analysts, data engineers and business developers. The Voice of Customers team has established a good knowledge sharing and learning culture so you can learn from your peer researchers.
  • As a Senior Researcher, you will be working on high priority projects, and many times challenging customer problems. You have all the tools you need to be creative in trying out new methodologies.
  • You will coach, support and critique colleagues through the research phases. Train and empower designers and product managers to do substantial research themselves. Help ensure applicability and impact of insights.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF…

To land this job you will show and explain research artefacts from various stages of the product development process that illustrate your proven ability to deliver actionable user insights.
  • Experience: You have experience in market research or UX research in a digital-first company.
  • Communication. Your storytelling skills allow you to deliver customer insights straight to your stakeholders’ hearts and brains. You’re a seasoned facilitator of engaging, impactful workshops. You are fluent in English and - ideally - at least one other European language.
  • Data. Your data savviness helps you feel comfortable and eager to get your hands dirty by transferring and connecting data in different ways and forms; by querying data using SQL query or creating data pipeline between different data platforms and tools. You are experienced in at least one programming language for data analysis (such as Python, R, Matlab), and can deal with SQL and tools like Datastudio.
  • Hands-on. You have stellar quantitative research skills. You demonstrate mastery of a wide range of survey design techniques (e.g. experimental, exploratory, summative) and survey analysis skills (e.g. data cleaning, descriptive statistics, significance test, latent factor analysis, cluster analysis, etc.) that lead to powerful insights.
  • Excellence. Your experience in different types of organisations set you up for success. Your curiosity and adaptability drive you to push the bar, finding new ways of maximising the impact of User Research and defining lean and efficient tools to make user insights a core component of our product development processes.
  • Prioritisation. You know when to do what - and why. You’re great at identifying the key research questions behind requests, helping stakeholders identify the right approach, managing stakeholder expectations and creating the perfect balance between effort and impact. You balance high-quality research with short deadlines and highly iterative cycles.
