Job Details
JOB PURPOSE
The Design Assistant will support the Design team across research, design and development of the RTW wovens categories. The ideal candidate is highly creative, energetic and possesses a keen eye for design. They must also have strong organizational skills and thrive in a dynamic fast-paced environment. This position is suitable for a recent graduate of an Apparel or Fashion Design programme.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research, experiment and present design concepts, swatches, drapes, and fabric manipulations in-line with seasonal brief and range plan
- Create mood boards and conduct research across materiality, trims, garment research, and colors
- Issue style numbers and complete tech sketches
- Sketch into assigned profiles and participate in hand over process
- Render and color up CADs in Photoshop and Illustrator for SMS launch and collection pre-merchandising
- Pre-determine stitch colors and trim colors for seamless process going into SMS making
- Pre-plan fabric combinations and trim colors in line with raw material procurement
- Undertake topstitch color trials and color matching
- Maintain digital files, boards, tracker, seasonal catalogs, BOMs, line sheets and range plan documents
- Assist with trim and print artwork development
- Communicate with vendors and resources
- Actively participate and take detailed notes in meetings
- Collaborate with other teams internally to organize and keep track of sample processing
- Partner with Showroom Coordinator to set and maintain showroom appearance and organize samples.
PERSONAL PROFILE
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or Apparel
- 1-2 years experience in an Assistant role - Design internships required
- Understanding of fabric, garment construction, pattern making and fit
- Strong drawing skills in Illustrator and hand-sketching ability
- Experience in concepting and sourcing
- Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Advanced visual and written communication skills with attention to detail
- Ability to think creatively, strategically, and technically
- Motivated self-starter, able to work independently with a high level of initiative and time management
- Must be a team player, open to taking direction, and able to work well under pressure
- Organized with excellent notetaking and follow-up
- Commitment to learning and continuous development
