About the Role

Director Material Costing will lead a team to drive Fabric Costing Strategy for the Brands ensuring competitive advantage and cost savings for Gap Inc. The role will be accountable and responsible for developing a fully transparent and scientific Costing framework / model to estimate fabric cost and work with the Material Management teams and Vendors to establish the process and drive change management across the supply chain. The role would need to liaison with R&D, Designers, Mill Management teams and Mills to scope, scale and embed the process. The role works in partnership with the technical lead to ensure commercial negotiations and decisions meet quality standards that we have and take advantage of cost engineering opportunities with our mills.

What You'll Do

  • Developing a fully Transparent and Scientific Costing Framework / Model to estimate fabric cost
  • Establish critical elements of cost component visibility and drive standardization
  • Explore and develop tools and systems required to sustain, scale, and audit the process
  • Create data base to run simulations based on macro impacts to commodity prices and effect on labor & utility cost due to inflation
  • Improve the AUC margin expectations through key levers of fabric strategy, fiber optimization, yarn / fabric platforming, digitalization of development and sampling
  • Work with the Mill Management team and develop a Global Mill network to support Brand and Category Strategy
  • Work with Mill Management teams to explore and develop Brand / Category strategy team to identify fabric platforming opportunities, negotiation strategy and recommendations on raw material commitments, pricing and hedging of commodities through supplier positions
  • Maintain a robust, brand appropriate base of mills that meet each brand's aesthetic needs while operating under the principles of creating leverage where possible
  • Build effective strategic relationships with leaders and successfully partners across Category with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, agencies and colleagues to drive the functional results
  • Developing technical skills of the team
